I need a tip for remembering what line is on each rod!

I wasn't sure if I would ever get to this point, but this year I believe I have!

I'm carrying 8-10 rods in the boat at all times, most with matching reels. They get shuffled around in transport and things that I need an easy system to remember what pound test I have spooled on each rod.

What do you guys do to remember this?

On my rods that I have Florocarbon on , I went to walmart and got some tennis racket grip tape in yellow and all my rods that have the yellow grip are the ones with floro and on the rod buts I scratched a number 10,12,15 etc to show lb of line(this also gave me a great grip and feel on the rod). On my other rods I use berkley big game which is green and on the buts I still scratch the numers of lb of line on that rod its just works for me.

I just use my label maker and put it on my rod. Comes off easy when changing with no marks or residue.

I created an excel spreadsheet for my reel maint. and "type of line" is one of the categories. The problem I had labeling rods was that sometimes I'll changes reels to different rods; and then things get messed up.

I've been using the spreadsheet for a few years as well..but like you say, that info is not always at hand if im on the water.

May see what kind of a label I can come up with.

Diff. colored tennis racket tape for each size/type, could also mark the tape with a sharpie also to help remember.

I just write it on a piece of masking tape with a fine point Sharpie and stick it on the bottom of the reel seat, (between the reel and the rod).

I write like 10SWFC for 10lb Spider Wire Fluorocarbon or 15PM (15lb Pline Mono). Works pretty well

Just use a grease pencil on the foot of the reel...wipes off easy ,waterproof

We have a Dymo label maker at home and it works great. It cost about $25 at Office max. I use it to label my plano style boxes as well.

I do the same as Fiddlefarter - just small label of some form on the reel foot so it is always there and easy to change. Grease pencil is another great idea.

they sell those little stickers at btd and tw that are nice. Hard to justify paying much for such a simple task but they are legible, dont smear and easy so thats what i use.

I do the same but I put the masking tape around the rod blank then wrap a piece of scotch tape over that so it doesn't get smeared or soaked

I never have a problem remembering... I spend so much time drunk on the back porch staring at all my rods for the weekend that I couldn't forget...
I do keep a rod book of combos though... spend many hours staring at it...

I thought I was the only one who did that....where I ran into trouble for the first time was last year I on one particular trip I found myself switching reels in the boat.

Lots of good tips here, thanks guys.

Outdoor pro shop has reel-stix pull off sticker with line size and type of line printed on each one for example 14m(mono) or 14f(floro)

I just went to Office DePot last week and bought an inexpensive Brother P label maker......works great. I also used it to print my name and tel no to put on each rod. I have 22 rigs and simply can't remember what's on what. Probably the simpliest thing to do is use only one type line, ie 14 # fluorocarbon on all baitcasters (?)...except where braid is mandatory.

Re: I need a tip for remembering what line is on each rod! (flyingwillie)

I don't have a problem remembering mine, depending upon what they are used for - similiar use rods have the same line.
    spinning rods (4) - 20# braid
    casting rods plastics (4) - 30# braid
    crankbait rods (3) 10# co-polymer
    spinnerbait rods (2) 12# co-polymer
    jig/frog rods (2) -50# braid.
That was as simple as I could make it.
