    West Point Lake these days...

Have some family in SW Ga and will likely be heading up this fall to visit... was thinking about dropping the boat in West Point lake since it's practically right there where I will be...

But reading back through some threads it appears WP is not the lake it used to be... any recent info or reports? Have the stripers taken over completely? Is it worth fishing anymore ie for LM or Spots?

Another option is Eufaula I suppose, but WP Lake would literally be a few min down the road.

It is a tough lake to fish from June to October. In the 80's and 90's it would take 20lbs to get a check in a 100 boat tourn. Not anymore. During summer , you may luck up on a topwater bite or two before 9am. After that it is dead. Here is the results of a recent tournament there and these guys KNOW this lake. https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=...61528869100503 You would be better off going to Eufaula and fishing the grass early and moving to deeper water later. I went last Tues and there was a willow fly hatch and some topwater action.

Our club fished it earlier this year and all the trucks were broken into at the ramp.

Dang, which ramp? I think there are 27 ramps for WPL... Family Farm is near West Point proper so would be looking at launching closer to the dam vs up near LaGrange...

But, appears Eufaula might be better choice regardless...

I live on West Point. It definitely gets tough after July until it starts to cool. Stripers have not taken over, but the Spots have. DNR is stocking FL strain LM for a few years now. There are 6-7 pounders in the lake but they are impossible during your time here. Spots will be out in the humps and main lake points. You should be able to catch something. Eufaula will be tough then too. It has changed more than WP in my opinion.

I am curious what ramp had the break ins. There are some small isolated ramps that it happens but the big one, Pyne Road Park is safe.

Olebiker would like to hear what ramp you got broken into as well.

Horace King was the one that had the break-in's back in the spring. Every year you have a random incident here and there...probably no different than any lake.

The break ins happened at the southern harbor marina ramp. All of our club members trucks had smashed windows.
