Hey fisherpeeps.. Got a question for ya'll.. Here in Central Fl. we're fishin the St. Johns river.. (mainly it's southern stretches) and the fishin always seems pretty difficult.. Especially for newbies on the river.. Here's the basic layout.. In most stretches it's only about 3 good casts across it's entire width.. (Maybe 100 yards) It has oxbows and bends throughout the river, but with very few actual feeder creeks.. Sometimes the current is decent, but without much rain the majority of time there is little to no current, especially with all the north winds blowing and making it run backwards.. (St. Johns runs from south to north normally) Main channel depth is appx. 13-20' with destinct, but mostly soft, channel breaks.. (ie: not hard or rocky break lines) There's laydown trees and stretches of lilly pads along it's banks, usually in 2-7' of water.. Not much grass to speak of, unless it's the last 5' before the bank, and in <1' of water.. Water temps have dropped 10* in the last 2 weeks down to 67-68*.. Water is dark, tannic, river colored.. So, how would you river rats go about tackling large mouth bass in such a place?? Thanks for your replies and ideas!!![]()
