    Shakey Heads

I have had a lot of luck with this rigging...but I have been losing a lot of fish and it always seems to be about 5 feet away when they come unhooked ....I dont horse them in. I tried the lucky strike, spot remover, and The expensive Ikey heads, anyone else having this problem or is this a curse!!

How are you setting the hook and what type of rod and line are you using?

I just pull up on the hookset....I dont try to cross there eyes. I use a 6'6" Falcon Medium action spinning rod, 8 lb. flourocarbon line, I have the drag set semi-loose so the line wont snap on the hookset, but I dont think I am getting enough penetration for the hook to hold

Try a sweeping hookset. I was having this same problem then went to a sweeping hookset and I am doing a lot better with it.

If the line is breaking with a medium rod, try another brand line or another knot. I have great faith in 8 lb. Sunline, tied with either a palomar or a three twist braid knot. Hold your finger on the spool during the hookset, trust your rod.

I use 10# Stealth with an 8# Invisx leader, a setup that Andy Morgan uses with his shakey head worms. I keep the drag loose and cross their eyes with the hookset. Before using this, I used just the 8# fluorocarbon and lost more fish. Now, I usually penetrate the bony area of the mouth on the hookset. The overall feel is better now, too.

I've been experimenting with a similiar setup also, but I rarely lose fish after the hook up with my fluorocarbon setup.

What type of knot are you using to connect the braid and leader? I have tried a blood knot and the uni with berkley fireline and can't seem to get a knot to hold.

Try a J-knot. It won't slip and I haven't had one fail yet.

I use a Stren knot. You can find this with a Google search. I've tried other knots, but this is the only one I've found that consistently breaks at the lure knot and not at the splice knot.

    Re: Shakey Heads (JimMet)

I think the head style has a lot to do with losing fish. I've tried several different kinds and the majority have either caused fish to come off as soon as they break the surface or I just flat out miss a lot. I finaly got hold of some made by Daimon Lures, and its solved all my problems. He makes a football shakey head with a spring in the head to attach the bait to and since I've switched to it I've not lost a single fish. I'm not sponsored or associated with them in any way. They just make a product that really works well that I happened to stumble accross. I ordered 4 or 5 different types from people on ebay and these were some that I got there. I've since ordered straight from him. Just got some new ones in this week. But they work great, every fish is stuck right in the roof of the mouth and they don't come off.

Also, I've been fishing them in 25-30 foot of water in heavy current, so I've been using the 3/8 and 1/2 ounce heads and throwing them on a 6'7" steez baitcaster with 15lb fluorocarbon. I don't break out the spinning rod unless I go to the light heads away from the current.

I lost a lot of fish on spot removers. Just started using Giggy heads, seem pretty good so far.

Thats the way with me, I couldn't keep a bass hooked on those spot removers. Along with several other brands I tried.
