Software won't update

Hi - so I had mega live added to my system and the tech had to update my software. He got it to 2.28 but can't get it past that. I have G3N Helix 10 Chirp DI + GPS in the front and 10 Chrip SI + GPS in the console. I've downloaded the 2.8 bin to an SD card. Put the card into the unit and it said Encrypting Card. After that it never prompts for the upgrade.

I've left the card in the unit for 40 minutes at this point and it hasn't changed a bit. I tried updating via my phone and the one boat network (sees it) but says it can't transfer a file that large without an update.

Anyone have a link to a version between 2.28 and 2.8? Or other thoughts? I'd like to get this updated so I can use it tomorrow.

The One-Boat Network update feature won't work until you are at the supported software level which is 2.800. Basically, you can't use the One-Boat Network App unit update feature until Humminbird announces the next software update.

Are you absolutely sure you downloaded the correct Helix update? They are model specific and it needs to exactly match what your unit says when booting up... Same as the name on the serial number sticker as well. Also, do you have a 32GB or smaller SD card formatted FAT32 and no other files on the card?

Yes, I have 2 cards that I've tried. First is a 32gb fat32 and the other is a 16gb fat32. The unit sees the card as it's putting the encryption files on the card.

I downloaded the 2.8 version for both the SI + GPS G3N and DI + GPS G3N. I tried each one on each card individually and nothing happened. Strangely they are the same size files if they don't work on each other.

Helix software is unit specific; they will only load to the unit that matches the complete model name exactly. The unit's complete model name is shown in the SYSTEM STATUS view, that complete model name is what you match in the Software Update list on the Humminbird website=no other software will install.

Two things have to happen when the memory card is inserted in the unit if you don't preplan.
1. The unit writes an Encrypt folder to any unlocked memory card. That has nothing to do with the update, it is for the purchasing and downloading of a Chart Select map.

2. The unit has to read the software file to determine if is correct. The software files are very large and it takes few minutes for that to happen and the install process to start.

You can shorten the unit reading time by putting a blank memory card in any unit so it gets the Encrypt folder added. Then copy the unit software to the memory card, put the card in the unit and WAIT until you get the message to replace the software with the new version. Don't push any buttons for any reason until you get the replace message to answer YES. That WAIT can be up to 10 minutes, usually less than 5.

If you want to use the same card for another unit, delete the software file and leave the Encrypt folder on it, then copy the other unit's software to the card, put that in the other unit and WAIT.

Appreciate the help. I started from scratch and focused on 1 at a time taking pictures each step of the way. I finally got everything updated to 2.8 for the 2 units and 1.7 for the mega live and 1.17 for the target lock. Strange issue in that I couldn't update the mega live via the back console but the target lock would only update via the back console. But everything is up and running. Now need to drop it in the water and see if it works.
