It's a long run from where they launch. Several shoals make it impossible to get to via glass boat, during low water. Lot's of local derbies won, by guys in jets getting up there.

Holston River. Those fish can be finicky and turn off, but I've seen some huge browns come from that area. 3-4 winters ago, Ott weighed a 7+ from that area in a winter tournament.

Easy decision to make when you dont have to be back to a weigh-in.

Still trying to find the dam. Looks like the Holston ends here.

The bottom pic is the dam at the headwater of Cherokee. It is a spillover dam that water constantly comes across.......unlike the dam at the lower end of the lake. There used to be a steam plant with big stacks at that upper dam but it was all taken down about 8-9 years ago and replaced with natural gas boilers. The cove/inlet you see at the right of that dam if you were at the bottom looking up is where all the warm water discharge from the steam boilers and pumps would enter back into the river when that steam plant was there. The water temps during that time would usually be 15 degrees so higher than it would be downstream about a mile and the fish would pile in up there in the wintertime. It is not like that now since they went to the natural gas boilers.

I’m pretty sure the off the grid videos I watched he was running a 115 and it’s not a jet motor. I bet he gets along pretty good.

This is fascinating. How many oddball things come together to make this possible? I’ll sure be watching.

I'm pretty sure these guys don't all have to leave from the same ramp. Anyone know for sure? 40 miles isn't all the long of a run with a 115, I can easily go that far on Smith Mountain Lake from where I live. I wish I'd seen the coverage of where Poche was fishing, I wasn't able to tune in until there was only 30 minutes left and they weren't covering Keith by then.

Actually, if you watch the replay, just watch the last 2 hours, they didnt really cover Keith at all till then, and that was with a drone. But to be fair, they didnt really cover Ott, cause he was so far up the river as well, Keith just went further lol and I think at the beginning you can see his boat waiting during the blast off, but maybe not, dont know 100%.
