I have a brand SSR hub for my 250 ProXS 4s and I put it in a Tempest prop and and now I cant get it out. I have banged it with rubber mallet/hammer and a socket and cant get any movement at all. Any suggestions other then press at a shop?
Thanks

I have not removed an SSR hub, but I have removed a solas hub which is rubber for its entire length, from my Bravo FS prop. I used a 1/2" or 9/16" diameter threaded rod with a nut, 2nd locknut and a large thick washer on prop nut side. The threaded rod came through a 2 x 4" on the gearcase side with a large thick washer resting on the 2 x 4" and I supported that small 2 x 4" on two other 2 x 4" resting on the prop hub. Then I just kept tightening the nut and it pulled the hub out easily. I think the press is the recommended method, but this worked for me.

Watch this video. I have done this. Could not believe how easy it came out.

They are a REAL bear to get out. I use a bottle jack with a socket and jack the prop against the underside of my boat trailer to get the SSR hubs to start moving out of the prop. Basically bottom side of prop against bottom of I beam, bottle jack with an appropriate sized socket on the other side, and slowly jack the bottle jack until the hub moves up and is touching the I beam also. I tried the beating with a socket and hammer, the screwdrivers on the back side, neither worked.

Just did one yesterday with 2lb hammer and socket
2 crowbars opposite of each other work every time. Acts like a fulcrum when placed on the edge of the barrel on your prop. If that won't get it out then your likely going to have to find a shop that can press it out. Make sure to grease the hub when you put it back on, otherwise your going back to square one with your problem.

Use the standard racing hub instead, easier prop changes and will come out or reverse much easier when you launch the boat and idle is a little higher
Don't use a SSR hub until you have determined that it will used long term.

Thank you for the video and the suggestion of the jack. I have taken mine to a shop everytime. This will sure help eliminate that problem.

I couldn't beat mine out with an impact socket and deadblow. Used a jack and the underside of my old truck bumper to mimic a hydraulic press. Slowly it came out.
Harbor Frieght makes a hydr. press on a stand for around $150...bought one for this exact reason...hubs are easy in and out now....plus I've used the press numberous times for other things.

That should work if you get the one for the fatshaft. I still have mine and used it when I tested about 5 props on my 4S when it was new. Very easy to push out by hand or perhaps a slight tap. Eventually after about 90 hours it developed some prop rattle and I had to change the adhesive strips (about $25 and easy to do). I have an all rubber hub in one of my props and the HD Racing hub in my ProMax prop and it is easily removed if I want to test other props.
