    Guys,
Anybody try this product to help with E-10 gas?

    Re: PRI-G Gas Additive (ncbass)

Not yet. I'm doing my best to frequent only stations that sell non-ethanol gas. Not sure for how much longer these stations will continue selling non-ethanol though. Some stations are even advertising that they sell only non-ethanol gas. That's a big plus for me.

I've read a few comments that this stuff is supposed to be pretty good. Seems expensive but, supposedly, when you look at how little you have to add to your gas, it's not too bad.

Jim: I wonder how ANY station can advertise that their gas doesn't have ethanol in it????? Since it's a federal law that as of the middle of June this year it was federally mandated.

Not doubting what they are advertising but wondering if these stations are being honest? Maybe Redline and Don can comment on the product and maybe about the "no ethanol" claims as well

    Re: PRI-G Gas Additive (esdbass)

I've not tried this product. We've recently added "Marine Stabil" to our list of additives for fall servicing... just as an added precaution (we're seeing mostly E-10 fuel here now).

From the research I've done (extensive... but I'm also not an "expert" on this subject), I've found no evidence of a "Federal" mandate on using Ethanol (the Federal Mandate just said that MTBE had to be removed, and another form of "oxygenating the fuel" utilized).

From what I see, mandates are beeing done at a State Level. A large majority of states are now mandating Ethanol Enhancement of fuel... and often, neighboring states are getting the new E10 fuels just because the "depots aren't going to carry multiple blends of the same fuel". This appears to be the case in South Carolina. Even a few stations that "think" they are selling non-ethanol fuel are finding that indeed, they are wrong... or were informed wrong... or the next load they received was wrong. The reality is... we're all switching over... two years ago in some areas, June-July of this year in our area, and eventually I suspect- everywhere.

After a few calls to neighboring state offices, I was informed that fuel stations need only report ethanol content "in excess of 10%". Some are more straightforward than others... posting a small sticker on the pump that states: "This fuel contains up to 10% Ethanol Enhancement". Other's say "Ethanol Enhanced", while still others say "nothing".

I recently became subject to this dilemna myself... when I "temporarily" recommissioned by old Suburban (it's been parked for nearly 2 years... well stabilized and "pickled"). After I'd driven it 60 or so miles, I though about topping off the fuel tank, and re-stabilizing the fuel- NOT!!! The contents of the tank are currently an MTBE fuel, and I made the decision that if I'm going to change over- it needs to be run down to "nearly dry" first.

My recommendation: Unless you want to become a "ginny-pig"... talk to a dealer in an area of the country that has already been through the E-10 switch, and see what they have used- and their results. This way the "data" you base your decision on will be a lot "broader" than a "one man- two boat" situation.

So- New England Dealers- let's hear your experiences... if you don't mind sharing! Prefer to hear BOTH the good, and the bad!
(I know... I just ASKED people to talk about liquids.... whoopy!)

It is my understanding that the states control any mandates as to using ethanol gas. MO, unfortunately, has mandated it's use. AR, on the other hand has not. It is also my understanding that the federal gov't (EPA?) has ruled that the country must use some specific minimum number of gallons of ethanol gas. Not sure what that number is or how the states share in that minimum. Apparently, there are still choices we can make depending on where we live.

There are two gas stations (Tystar) around here that have put the statement "no ethanol in our gas" on their billboards just above the gas prices. Two other stations (Shell and Exxon) that I used to use now tell me they sometimes get ethanol gas and other times get non-ethanol gas. So, I quit using these stations and now use the one just down the road advertising no ethanol.
