Did anyone ever figure out ????

Did anyone ever figure out what caused the motor missing in the 3000 to 3500 rpm range ? If so, can you direct me to what they found. I have a 250 Pro XS and i noticed it missing on me this past weekend around 3000 to 3500 rpms and was wondering !! Thanks .....

Was your idle "stable" and your top end RPM still ok?

Start with a visual (and ohms test) of the crank position sensor (now referred to as a VRS).

I was told it was normal, mine has made a loud noise and had what appeard to me to be a miss at that rpm (3200-3700) all along

There's been lots of guessing. From carbon fiber reeds "harmonizing" to the little black box on the side of the lower section of the motor rattling to looseness in the steering mechanism in front of the motor to solid motor mounts. But, apparently, nobody has been able to truly ID the issue and fix it.

The last I heard out of Mercury was that they were unaware of this issue.

Jim's got the common causes of a "rattle" down to a science. Have not heard any wide reports of a "skip" that corresponds to the rattle, however...
