Yes, I have found these rods to be more sensitive than the RSR from a rod blank sensitivity perspective and I understand exactly where you are coming from as I have been on a journey over the last 5-years to move away from my Evergreen and Megabass spinning rods to only using casting gear for all of my smallmouth bass fishing needs and it's been both interesting and sometimes I've had to eat crow because the hyperbole wasn't as accurate for a given JDM casting rod as I was led to believe.

A good case in point is the specific Olympic Vigore 71H you are speaking of, it's certainly near the top of the echelon of any JDM bottom contact casting rod I own but ultimately it lacks the sensitivity of rods such as the RSR, Racing Design Jigga Stick and Hustler Finesse Tune rods. On a related note, I have found the Gamakatsu Luxxe Efreet B70MH-F to be nearly the equal of my EG Orion Black Rose in sensitivity which is perhaps 10% less sensitive than the RSR which is certainly the most sensitive heavy football jig rod I own followed closely by the RD Jigga Stick.

As for sensitive finesse JDM bottom contact rods I have used for smallmouth bass fishing, I recommend that if you are seeking to make the same journey to migrate from spinning rods to casting gear and are having challenges with rod blank sensitivity, you should be looking at the Shimano 22 Poison Ultima 1611ML+, while it's on pre-order status, it's at least attainable. From this list, I've left out the truly "Unobtanium" finesse JDM casting rods such as the Daiwa Steez Racing Design STZ RD 641ML+XB-SMT and the incredible Sedition SDC-702ML Cristobal Limited-Insane Bait Finesse Terrorist (that is my favorite rod name by far out of all the Sedition rods I own)

If you would like me to showcase rod balance pictures and fishing impressions of these remarkable finesse JDM casting rods I certainly can as I am up at my lake cabin this week where I store all of my fishing tackle.

    Please have a great day!
Personally I don't have plan to replace spinning gear with bait casting, just looking for the right one (or the best one I can afford) for heavier applications, as I started to throw heavier lures (1/2oz and up) a lot more over the past couple of years, especially when I was fishing for large mouth.
Anyway, I'd love to see some more pictures and reflections on any JDM gems. never tired of going through the wonderful JDM worlds. thank you for making the effort and sharing...damn I honestly promised myself never never consider EG Kaleido and Poison Ultima this time of last year...

If that is the lure weight that you are seeking to present bottom contact presentations to largemouth bass and are seeking to maximize sensitivity, then I highly recommend the EG Kaleido Inspirare Black Raven Extreme RS.

I'm awaiting my pre-order of the new Shimano 22 Poison Ultima 170MH to arrive so I can compare the two rods, but as they are both built with TorayCA M40X I expect that both of them are going to be amongst the most sensitive JDM bottom contact casting rods in my fishing inventory for the foreseeable future.

When I get the new Poison Ultima in, I will send you a couple of rod comparison pictures but unless the rod designers at Shimano made mistakes in their designs, I'm assuming the new Poison Ultima 170MH will be as well balanced as the Black Raven Extreme and comparable in weight so the only determination will be how they actually fish on the water and that is still a few months away for both of us unfortunately.

Got an email about the War Gazelle, it's either that or the Black Raven.

Thank you for the kind words!

I'm most excited about the new EG Super Stallion GT3RS having TorayCA M40X graphite infused in the rod blank for 2023.

I could easily see someone fishing out of a kayak going with the War Gazelle over the Black Raven and someone fishing from shore potentially going with the Black Raven over the War Gazelle but either the War Gazelle or Black Raven Extreme would be great for bottom contact fishing depending on your specific needs.

    Please have a great day!

After re-reading the Lure News R article detailing the three yearlong development of the new War Gazelle and that it's meant to present semi-BFS top water lures, I may have to pick one up to see how it compares with my Daiwa Steez Racing Design STZ RD 64ML+XB-SMT and EG Super Steed GT-R.

    Please have a great day!
