OK all you Merc Gurus ..... what is the story on these HP engines? Here's the situation:

I don't NEED it,
I'll never run it hard,
But I dearly LOVE to hear them run, and I can purchase one that I know is in good condition for a bargain.
Are they as reliable as a "stock" motor, or do they require more attention and maintenance?
It is a 1993 year model, and the hours are unknown.
If its a 260 they are great motor IF they have preventative work done to them, top pinned pistons etc.. It also must be reringed about every 140 hours run time...
If its a Pro max it too is a great motor and can go 300-500 hours without rebuild but I also suggest top pinning the pistons and up grade con rod bearings !

I'm not familiar at all with Mercs ... always been an OMC guy.Having been out of the "loop" for several years, I'm trying to get caught up. The owner says this is a 240hp motor? I didn't know that they offered a 240hp with that particular hood.
I'll see if I can get the serial number ... but in the meantime ... did they offer that engine in 240hp ??

Yep 2.5 carb hood, 245, thing looks clean, jump on that thing, everybody should have a spare one of those in their livin' room!!
