    Powerpack question?

Is there a way to test a powerpack to see if it is going bad? I have a 99 Stratos 295PEDC with a carbed Johnson 200 and a 5 1/2" CMC j/p. The prop to pad is 3 1/2" below right now. I'm getting 57.7 mph(gps) @ 5800 - 5900 rpm's and this seems slow for this boat. The prop is a 24P Raker. I think the prop has been worked on because there are numbers engraved/stamped on it that aren't original markings. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you are spinning it up that well then the PP is fine. Yes you can test it but you need specific meters and additional adapters for the meter. If you are running a heavy load and you and your partner are a couple of big boys your performance will lag. Make sure your carb plates are opening fully at WOT. Your carb roller is intact and your prop is up to snuff.

Long time, no chat ChampioNman. By the way, the engine model number is J200PLEEB. (had to give the baby a bottle before I could go write it down earlier.)
The boat is completely empty right now. I just brought it home Friday. I added the jackplate after I ran it Saturday morning. W/O the plate, I also got 57.7 mph @ 5800 -5900 rpm's. This appears to be the original powerhead because the silver "circle" on the back top of the block has the same serial number as the tag on the transom bracket. I'm going to check the compression and plugs tomorrow. It starts and idles smoothe. Motor sounds tight. Comes up on plane great, but has no bow lift. I thought it may be he prop.

If you just added the plate then I would start with the basic set up. 3.5" below the pad. and go from there.

Your running good rpm's, thus no issue with the PP. You must have set-up issues because there is nothing wrong if your turning 58-5900...You can work the prop to give you more lift resulting in more speed.

    Re: Powerpack question? (Troy250)

I had the motor and powerpack checked today. They checked out fine. Switched to another 24 Raker that has had pitch and cup added. I got better lift and I felt the back raise up also. It didn't sound like it was blowing out, as the other prop did. I got 62.4 at 5400 - 5500 rpm's, jackplate set at 3 1/4" below. Had to let off because the chine walking got bad quick. Didn't try to drive through it to see what rpm's stopped at. I dropped the plate to 3 1/2" below and had the same result. Should I move the plate UP or DOWN at this point? I put this in the Setups Thread also since it doesn't seem to be engine related. Thanks ChampioNman and Troy. Just need to work out the bugs now..

Good deal. You can work through the chine walk but it requires seat time. There are several articles on BBC that discuss walk and videos also. Good luck. It will take time to work it all out...

Higher the plate, the better the chinewalk... lower usually worse.... is it picking the nose up? If not, lower plate:)

    Re: Powerpack question? (THE WITCHDOCTOR)

When I switched to the other prop yesterday, the nose came up and I felt the back lift also. With the other prop, it just ran flat. I think I'm on the right track now. I appreciate all the input from you all. Everything that's been suggested so far has helped. I spoke with the salesman where I got it today and told him about the prop being bad. He's gonna send me another prop. That's a plus. I would like to try a 4 blade later to see how it works. My last boat/motor did well with a 24P Trophy 2+2.
