    Dual Cable steering tube setup

Hi all ! I recently bought a 1994 Ranger with a 175 Johnson Fastrike. It has a dual cable steering setup. Yesterday I noticed the steering very sloopy at the steering tube (motor connection) . I fould that one of the adjustment nuts has split and broke off so the cable went out of adjustment. There was two large nuts on the threaded rod that hold the cable in adjustment(only one now). Does anyone out there have a pic of a dual cable setup which shows the proper location of the two adjustment nuts revalent to the bracket so that I can replace the broken nut?
One adjusts the cable play and the other is a jam nut to lock the adjustment so I'm not sure their placement is critical but I'd just like to get it right.
BTW, I posted here becuase the Bracket/steering tube, and parts are OMC.
    Thanks,
    Sterling Gallan

Re: Dual Cable steering tube setup (ChampioNman)

Thanks ChampioNman. I have looked at several parts diagrams for the OMC connector kit for that year (different parts suppliers) and they all show different placements of the nuts. I am used to parts diagrams showing the placement of parts (nuts/washers, etc) in the right sequence, but the OMC parts diagram does not make sense for the steering cables coming in from the starboard side (of the boat), nor does it make sense reversing the diagram in case it is meant for a port side cable install. That is why I was looking for a proper install and a picture.

    Thanks

Re: Dual Cable steering tube setup (Hair Jig)

    Hi Hair Jig.
Your setup is completely the opposite of the way the steering tube and parts were installed on my boat and yours looks somewhat like the OMC diagram. Mine was not set up this way at all so I suspect this is why I had problems. This was done before I purchased the boat.
I am going to get 2 new adjustment nuts tomorrow and I am going to install the steering tube and adjustment nuts/washers as you have in your installation. This looks like the right way to do it.

Thanks very much for the pic .
    Sterling
