still having problems

1984 2.6 xp runs great for 15to 20 min on lake,then goes to crap looses power,doent do the same thing every time,sometime just misses and goes on sometime looses power and only run about 1000 rpmfor a bit then takes off like no prob, thought it was fuel (like sucking air) changed al lines and bulb, screens clean,sometime choke or pumping bulb help but usually dont,Think its luck when it helps.now i'm thinking electrical but dont know where to start,also 92-96 on compression,and plugs dont look to bad.

After warming the motor to the point where it has the problem.....I would check the stator output, then check the timerbase output, if both of these are good, I would look at the packs.

can you tell me how and can i check it on a hose or do i need to do it at the lake.

After its warm you can run the tests with the motor at cranking speed, not running.
