I think the rude ram was maybe the bad boy at the time???????
They are both Ficht! The big block 225 was updated with the water cooled EMM and some changes to the injector voltage in 2000 and yes it was a strong motor. It did not have the problems the small block had.

Depends. The 225 Ficht up to year 2000 was a 3.0L motor. Not a high output, just a run of the mill 3.0L 225. In 2001 OMC came out with the 3.3L "Rude Ram". This was the first Evinrude 225HO (Johnsons had 3.0L Carb 225HO's starting in 1999 up to 2001). The 2001 "Rude Ram" lived up to the billing. Still IMO one of the strongest 225's Evinrude ever made. It is much stronger than the 3.0L 225 Ficht motors. So IMO yes, there would be a difference.

I agree. I have a 3.3L Rude Ram that needs a piston and injector. I just upgraded to a 2010 ETEC 250 HO that does not have the power my Ram had. New motor is great and has many positives but not any stronger! Thats comparing a 225 HO vs 250 HO.Let me know if anyone is interested in the old Ram !!!
Huh? 225 Ram is 247hp with a 1.86:1 gear case, your 250 HO is 274++++Hp and over 300ft lbs of torque, now if you have the 1.71:1 case and are using the Rams prop, yes the HO will feel weak, but prop her right and it will be a ANIMAL.....Trust me, my buds race these damn things and they can get all the 3.3liter motors they want but the 3.4 is a Different animal, they can do this this is videos of their accomplishments and work... Hang that 2001 'Rude Ram 225 on your Stroker and you won't have any other 225 powered Strokers passing you.The lower-unit could be the only limfac since you stroker boys run such high prop-shaft heights. Would need tooters touch/mods to help it out.
Neal....when the day comes and I can getmy XB21 Allison, it will have a 300 ETEC on her. But, I NEED that lower-unit that the all white Mirage/ETEC has on it. That thing is SWEEEEEET!![]()

The FICHT Ram or 'Rude Ram is the name given to the redesigned FICHT engines in 2000 and later. They had a 40 volt ignition and injection system and an EMM instead of an ECU to run the show.

Yes, the "Ram" was added to all 2000-2001 Ficht motors of ALL HP. I thought the 'Rude' designation was only for the 225 High Output motor.
There was no 'Rude' Ram 200, 150, etc. Am I correct?
yup, 2001 225 high output version was called the Rude Ram

I always loved those graphics...that big bold "RUDE" says it allI thought the silver painted Lightnings looked better as well.
Is that the one at C&O? They have had that for a long time...
Didnt you do it to your HO? Im sure the Stroker guys know how to hold a OMC lower together? Im by no means a Tech, but the guys up here that I know are and work their magic to the lowers, for their Hydrostreams, Allys and Mirage tunnels.....Go to screamandfly.com and talk to etec1..... heres a link http://www.screamandfly.com/member.php?659-E-tec1

I'm runnin a L2 with the carrier pinned.....that's pretty much it. That's why I was asking. With no low water pickup, it keeps me from surfacing the LU......i.e. extending it lifespan, so to speak.
