    oil residue

Is it preety standard that the 225 ho will have a little what appears to be oil residue follow behind the boat? Cant smell it and it doesnt seem to be gas. Is it just the exhaust residue or should I check into a leak. i know when the motor is tilted for trailoring the shop told me that they leak thru the air box from being tilted and that ends up in the bottom of the motor area.

    Thanks

    Welcome to the BBC.

You didn't state which 225HO but yes, it is not uncommon to have some oil drip into the motor pan from the airbox, if your motor is a DI, I would pull the motor cover and look at the right side just to see if anything looks wet.

Its not a bad idea to remove the air box and drain it from time to time, it also makes it easy to clean the motor pans.

Yep! Good idea, every one should keep their new fangled engines as clean as my 1985 XP 150.

    Taking Peetie-pie out crabbing tomorrow.

Will that E-Tec stay as purtty and clean as my XP for the next twenty years.?
Hmmmnn. I am sixty-four now and at eighty-four will that E-Tec have enough giddy up and go to suit an old man?

Welp, it's off to bed me and Peetie gots to git up early in the morning. Them crabs are a waiting.

    Talk to ya tomorrow night.

I would say it will be as Shiny as a new Penny in 20 years.

You dont run the XP wide open, most of your time is spent at idle.....I would think when your 84 the E-Tec would still be purring.

You two have fun and be careful.

    Hello my dear friend,
Yes we had a wonderful time crabbing. The water was rough with one to two feet swells therefore we could only creep along most of the time.
The large cargo ship and tugboat pushed barges kept the water stirred up pretty good. Peetie was not to happy with the rough water.
However, our crabbing trip was 12.7 miles, maximum speed was 21.4, not even close to wide open . Total trip time 5.09 hrs, moving time 4.48 hrs, with an average speed of 2.5 mph, using 10.979 gallon of gas. Is that bad gas mileage for a twenty year old cross flow?

Glad you two had a good time, to bad the water was so rough.

If you run a cross flow slow even it will get good fuel mileage.
