Need Advice On Motor!

I recently purchased a '85 Ranger 320v, the Boat has a Recently rebuilt '79 Johnson.
The motor runs great on a boot, idles great in the water, but when you put the motor into gear, it dies. This is my first boat, and dont know an extreme amount about motors and would love if someone could tell me what they think is wrong. Thanks.

Welcome to the BBC, when you are in neutral at idle what is your RPM's. And if you can tell quick enough what is it when you drop in to forward? Your idle speed/timing may need to be increased a bit. It should be between 750-850 RPM in gear.
