    175 Intruder tach issue

I have a 92 175 intruder (ve175glenc) and the tach will sometimes jump all over even at idle. It will also sometimes show that I am turning 6500 rpms at wot and I know that isn't right the motor is on a zx-175 with a 23 tempest plus prop. Is my tach shot or is there connectiOns I need to check?

Take a marker and mark the back of your tach and the pole adjustment setting. With it marked take a small screwdriver and move the pole selector a few times back and forth then return to the original setting. It may help. If you have wing nuts on the cranking battery replace them with stainless steel hex nuts and lock washers or with stainless steel nylon insert nuts. Use a volt meter to check the output of the voltage regulator on the cranking battery with the motor off and then running. It should show no more than 14.8V DC. Or no less than 11.6 VDC. If so then suspect a bad voltage regulator.
