Airports, and what people believe they can put in carry-on

I was just in Boise Idaho airport this past Thursday. The guy right in front of me put his carry-on bag onto the conveyor to go through that screening tunnel. Well, lets just say it about shut down the airport for about 5 minutes. The alternate TSA personnel were saying he has a gun,(in his bag)and its loaded.

The guy really did not look like he had any bad intentions. But glad they were watching. I am sure that cost him some pocket change.

Lots of guns are found at the screening process.

My phone had something come across it the day before yesterday, about a woman getting busted at a airport for this same thing.

If they really did forget about the gun. Couldn’t they just put in a locked box for them to pick up later? Maybe check their record too while they r at it.

If you have something deemed illegal in your carry-on, the airport confiscates it unless you have a way to take it back out of the airport. They will not store it for you to pick up on your way back home. My needle nose pliers I was taking to Florida were in my carry-on. Didn't remember having them there rather than the other luggage. They were too long. Airport kept them. Wonder what they do with all the confiscated stuff. Sell it on ebay?

Different states have different laws depending on if you are a concealed carry holder or not...can get pretty severe if you not a licensed holder.

It’s impossible to judge intent. That guy gets through and empties a magazine into a crowd of people in a terminal...instant fodder for gun control...not to mention the dead people.

Everybody just made a mistake after they’re caught. Let the legal system work. He’ll get off light if it’s an honest mistake, but he will pay and never forget the mistake.

You HAVE to be smarter than that if you are going to carry a weapon.

A couple years ago I took a trip to Minnesota to attend a wedding. I just wanted to take a carry on and all I had at the time the right size was my range bag. I emptied everything out of the bag that was in there. When going through screening some sensor picked up the gun powder residue that was on the bag. They took me and the bag aside and checked everything in the bag and me. I had to go through the X-Ray machine. I told them what the problem was and didn't even consider this happening, my bad. After about 15 minutes of a thorough search of me and a bunch of questions they let me go through and suggested that I should not use that bag if I'm going to fly because it will surely happen again.

That should be their problem not yours. As long as carrying the bag is not illegal they should not harass you over it.

I couldn’t agree more... It is exactly their problem...that is why if you bring a bag through TSA with any kind of explosive residue, you can expect additional screening. It’s not personal. They are doing the job they are supposed to do.

I was in college and traveling abroad. They brought dogs through the line letting them sniff our bags and the dog hit on mine. I got pulled out of line and searched. Everything pulled from my bag until they determined i didnt have anything i didnt need. After the fact they asked what i had carried in that bag. I told them id just used it to move home from college and had had a playstation in it. They said the residue from some electronics cables could cause the dogs to hit on it. Craziest thing ive ever been through
They aint got hands, set the hook

I have seen some eBay sellers posting confiscates from airlines. I may be wrong but I believe the airports or lines dump them in quantity at auction lots and the buyers put them on eBay. Stuff I saw was big lots of pocket knives and swiss army style knives plus other guy stuff.

Absolutely, I didn't have a problem with it, glad they are on the job to intercept people that may be up to no good. I know from time to time people either knowingly or not try to bring things in their carry on that the airlines don't allow. Everybody should know the rules before they fly.

Flying down to Bama one year I was pulled to the side. The person screening wanted to know what the object was in my carry on.

“ Why sir, happens to be a couple 24 ounce prime Ribeyes vacuum packed I’m taking down to a friend.” Still froze when He picked me up at the airport.

That's a great attitude to have last year before Covid our Daughter, SIL and two Granddaughters flew down to see us. They had bought a stroller from a friend for the youngest one and there was some detected on it that raised the alarm.

Turned out it had traces of Ammonia Nitrate probably had been setting next to a bag of it the garage of the folks they bought it from. They checked it over for a long time and patted down my SIL.

Like you say glad they have the capabilities to check on residues that quick and keep us safe.

All free Americans should be able to carry guns on planes.

Always travel armed. Always check, as required. I Just wish every airport had the same procedures.
