I hope this is the correct forum or someone here can help. I have a Johnson V4 115. My tach is a Teleflex Driftwood. When running at WOT sometimes my tach may drift from 5500 up to 6000 and even up to 68-6900 without the motor changing pitch. Is it just time to replace the tach ($75)? Or is there a way to check/ calibrate it. Thanks for any input.
You can try this. Mark the spot on your tach where the pointer is. Then use a small screwdriver and move the pointer several times then back to the original spot. You may have a spot of corrosion on the contacts and doing this sometimes cleans them. No real way to open them up and re-calibrate them.
Thanks so much championman. Will give it a shot before investing in a new one. Btw, is it possible spraying a little contact cleaner might help during this process?
You can try but it is kind of hard to get it in there. You may want to check the battery voltage also just incase a voltage regulator/rectifier is going out.
