    Throttle Question

    Hi All
I've noticed lately that when I'm coming off plan, slowing down to a stop, the throttle feels a bit stiff right before it shifts into neutral. I need to use just a bit more force to get it into neutral then I ever remember doing before. Has anyone every experienced this before? Does something need greasing somewhere? The trottle arm is a enclosed unit, so I have not clue how to access anything without cutting the fiberglass. I have a 95 268v with a 90HP Evinrude. Thanks for any help!

    Re: Throttle Question (KingStratos)

At what RPM does the motor idle?

There is a friction screw on some concealed side mount controls, if its there it will be behind the plastic cover towards the back of the control, the cover snaps off and if its there it will be a white plastic slotted screw.

    Re: Throttle Question (RUSTY63)

On cold start it idles at about 1200 RPM's, once warmed up it drops down to about 950. When I put it in gear it drops to about 650 or so.

If I see this screw, just a small turn and then test it?

Turn it counterclockwise about two turns, don't force it, this may not be the problem but it never hurts to check it.

You may need a new throttle cable and as long as your in there....replace the shift cable also.

I see 2 screws on the backside of the throttle arm. If I remove those screws, it looks like the plate on the throtthe comes apart. Would this screw be inside there?

Ok, sit in the passenger seat and look at the control box area, at the back of the black plastic cover there is a slot, pull at the slot and the cover will pull off, if the screws are there you will see them.

    Does this make since?

Sitting in the seat looking at the control box area this is what I see. I see the black throttle arm with a black plate right up against the fiberglass. There is one screw on the left side. If I lossend that scree does the plate come off exposing this screw your talking about?

The black plate to the rear should have a slot in the back you can slip a screw driver in and pop that cover off.....Can you get a picture of it?

You have to click on them in shutterfly to enlarge them, then copy the URL and post.

I received your email.......your control box does not have the friction screws, you may need cables.
