Overheat Alarm ????

I have an 08 mdl 225 HO on a Bass Cat Cougar and As hot as its been down here I havent been able to cruise below like 4000 Rs for any distance , or my damn Alarm comes on . It did the same thing last year , so I had a new impeller installed , and it still did it , but its not all the time , and only in really warm water !!! So this impeller is not even a year old yet , Im not loosing water pressure , and the Alarm goes off in really hot water when I try to cruise at a low RPM !!!! All I have to do for the Alarm to go off , is stop and give it a lil rev , and the light goes right off !!! What do yall think I should do , Im thinkin about putting bigger scoops on my LU , to maybe up my WP a lil bit ?

What are the water pressures at the various rpms and how do they compare with the published specs that your dealer has?

Insist that the tech replace the whole water pump kit and to "seat" the driveshaft as published in the service guides that the dealer has.

Has the dealer called the toll-free factory hotlne for dealer technicians and asked for guidance since he is having trouble fixing the problem?

What software version is in the engine's EMM, ask the dealer?

Do you see a pattern here?

TTT , My mota is on the extended warranty , so its gonna cost me my $100 deductible to bring it in !!!! Is it something simple , or do I need to bring it in !!!! I feel like if I bring it in , the mech will probably be chasin his tail and not beable to fix it , because it only sounds the alarm when running at a low RPM in really hot water !!!!! If they put it on the muffs , itll idle just fine all day !!!!!!

Most parts that can cause an overheat are not warranty items, but maintenance items.

You could try shotgunning approach such as replacing thermostats and taking apart and inspecting the 'blow off' valve and make sure the rubber grommet is glued into place. Use Loctite 380 for best results.

If you are unsure, get the factory service manual.

Ive checked the WP at all different Rs , and there right at the bottom of what BRP reccomends , but they are in tolerance !!!! Ive had a mech check out the gauge , and he said that the wp gauge was reading a lil lower than the WP really is !!!! So , Im gonna put a new gauge in also !!!!!

I'm having the same problem with mine except mine goes off when I'm running full throttle when i make a run of 1 mile or more. It goes into safe made and shuts down. i started back up and as long as I stay at 5000 RPM or less it doesn't do it anymore. I took it in and they changed the thermostat. Took it out the next week and it did the same thing. just got it out of the shop and taking it this weekend. they flushed the motor cooling passages. said alot of sediment build up was in and clean the PRV and reassembled. I have 20 to 25 lbs of water pressure when the alarm goes off. I hope this fixes it. I can't get to my fish early in the morning running at 5000 RPM when I going to be fishing for a national championship next month

Overheating problems after a long high speed run is usually caused by aerated water inside the cooling system. Causes could be exhaust leaking into the water pump, motor too high, transducers or thru-hulls within 14" of motor centerline,etc.

Ask you dealer to perform the aerated water flow test procedure as outlined in the Product Service Update Books that they receive each year. Also to check or plug the water hole in the adapter plate explained in the same books.

My alarm goes off during the long run and the motor shuts down not after finishing a long run and coming off plane. Still check the same things you listed above?

Guys I had a 07 225ho with the same problem. overheated when the water temp got mid 80 and above chased the problem 2 years. Water pressure was at the bottom number on the charts but in spec range. This was the same through 3 different water pumps. All mentioned above was tried with the same results. The last thing that was done fixed my problem. My motor always showed hotter on port side. Evinrude techs had the dealership change the water inlet on the port side from the front of the block to the rear of the block. Engine already has a plugged hole there remove the plug and just swap it around. After this I gained 8 lbs of water pressure all across the chart no more problems. Am I saying everyone should do this NO!!! it should only be done by a trained tech and only for the right reason. But it did solve my issue.

Are you talking about the EMM and vapor tank cooling lines?

If not, can you be more specific?

On the port side of the motor there is a plastic line (water) going into the block it is located near the front side. The same port side there is a hole near the rear of the block. The plug was removed from this hole and the line was relocated from the front to the rear of the block. We looked at a block not mine another one that was apart these 2 holes are the same water jacket of the block one is just a larger water inlet than the other.
