    Problem

95 Evinrude was idling out of a cove and just quit. Motor will turn over fine but will not fire. Where do I need to start ?

First by checking the fuel supply then the ignition system.

Of course if you want to let us know what motor is in question, that would be greatly appreciated.

My bad, it's a 95 Evinrude 150. It's a friend of mines motor. He said someone told him it was the stator.

    Michael,
Someone told him it was the stator, well yep it could be. Could also be the EET, or power pack or ignition switch or kill switch. Which one should we tell him?

With the information given, Championman is right - it could be any of the his mentioned items plus others too including the stator.

To be totally accurate, we would need the test results of each component that affects the engine operation and from that information we could say what is wrong.

The very first item to find out is whether it is a fuel or and ignition problem.

    Re: Problem (Bassmeister)

I asked my buddy about his motor. He said it was a 95 Evinrude 150. Nothing special about it. It is getting fire at the plugs and fuel to the carbs. That's all I know.

Well, if it's getting the right amount of fuel and the spark occurs at the right time, then the only things left are compression and a way for the exhaust to get out of the motor.

    Re: Problem (SEAHORSE)

Is it getting fire at ALL the plugs or just one bank?

    Re: Problem (LeeinAlabama)

If all 6 are sparking then you have a fuel delivery issue. Have your bud put the boat in the water, Start it make sure it is up to temp. then accelerate. If it starts to stumble hit the key to activate the choke. It should pick up. If it does he needs to look at the fuel system.

A 60° 150 does not use a flywheel key, it has a roll pin and a non-symetrical bolt pattern.
