clog in water lines in upper motor

    1999 ficht 200hp

I believe I have a clog in the water line in the upper motor.

I removed lower unit impeller was in perfect condition water will flow through the lower unit. I put a garden hose up to the water line in the motor.. the water will go into the motor but wont come out the pee hole.

does the motor need to be on/ have power for it to come out of the pee hole? I put a lot of water up the hose it seems to go in but will drain out through the bottom/ right back out the water line.

what is there to do to clear a line in the upper motor.

Sounds like the thermostats are doing their job. They will not open until @ 140 degrees.

If you want to check your 'stats, remove them and clean out the passages. You can boil some water and drop them in to see if they open.

Re: clog in water lines in upper motor (rude power)

This is new to me, are you guys saying that the water probably wont pee if the temp doesn't reach 140 degrees? I've put a muff on the motor before, its always peed water, but I never really noticed how long it took to do so. If I can remember it would pee pretty quick once the motor started

When It didn't pee water the other day I only ran it for 45 seconds in fear of over heating. I was having other mechanical problems (a bad new plug)

Where would my stats be located?
would it make sense to let it run a little longer? how long should I let it run without peeing?

i know mine takes awhile to get the water to come out, I believe it holds 8 gallon before it starts to pee,but mine will pee if I just hook the hose up and wait without starting it.

Re: clog in water lines in upper motor (rude power)

yeah I put a lot of water up the intake, I dont think mine pees unless the motor is running from past history. I have to wait till monday to get a new impeller. I'm in debate to put the lower unit back on and test.

If there is a clog in the upper part of the motor will having the lower unit off help me or is it pretty much all to do with the upper part. I dont want to reinstall the lower unit then need to take off again.

    thanks

Make sure your overboard indicator is not plugged up. Some insects like to build their nests in those things.
