Anyone ever had lower unit lube start to leak out of the speedo hole? My 00 Johnson 225 has been leaking a small amount out of the speedo hole after I have used it. I pulled the plug and let a little drain out and it doesn't look milky and no large chunks on the screw. It is a sei lower unit that has been on the boat for about 5 months. Any ideas?
I cleaned the hole out real good then put as much JB Weld into the hole as I could. I then put eletrical tape over the hole to keep it from leaking back out. After drying for 48 hours I then pressure test my lower unit and I was good to go. That was 7-8 years ago and still no problems.
I'd contact SEI with a 3 year warranty why mess around?
you are right. this is the second sei i have had the first lasted about 15 hrs then locked down out of gear. Wouldn't budge in or out of gear. For $800 and 3 yrs it is hard to complain though it is a bit of a hassle. Is there a hose or fitting behind this that most likely popped loose?
