where has the respect gone to on kentucky lake!!!!!!!

i just want to vent feel free to comment> i have fished at least 15 tournaments this year from perryville to masons. its not so bad down south but once you come under the new johnsonville bridge folks do not care where your fishing they will pull up and flat knock you off your spot or pull up and cast to the same spot you are and these folks are tournament anglers. i know most rules say stay 50yds from a fellow competitor, but if this rule is broken due you become nice and leave, protect your spot, call the director or go back to high school and start kicking butt. this of cousre is after you ask them very nicely back off since you was there first. this has happened to me personally twice and i have witnessed it at least a dozen times. folks if someone is on a spot and you want it also then wait your turn fish around them but give them space do not get close enough to where you can read the shirt size. there is a article on a north alabama fishing forum that tells of a guy you pulled in the middle of about 4 boats and actually pulled a gun on the other fishermen and said this is my spot and yall need to back off. is this what our sport is coming into now. guys and girls please show some respect and back off. post a comment about your experince and how you handled it if it was done to you. or tell me what you think i should do if faced with this accurance again

Just as bad or worse up around Paris Landing. I will usually ask in a very sarcastic voice if I am in their way. They usually get the idea. But if someone jumps in front of me while working a bank or to a point, I will just keep on trucking like nobody is there. This usually consists of me zinging a trap about as close to their boat as I can get without hitting it. After a while of this, they generally get the point and leave. If they don't, then I just start clanking stuff around, pull the cowl of the motor and fire it up like I am working on it, or if the water is warm enough may even go for a swim.

Most of the time, the rules state that you can leave the boat to releave yourself. Just make sure you P in the water when you jump in so you can use that as the excuse.

About all you can really do is document all unsportsmanlike acts. You could bring a video camera and if it happens again, you could ask the other team to leave. If they don't leave, tell them you are going to video them and turn the video in to the director. Some people just don't care about anyone but themselves and nothing is going to change them.

It doesn't get any better toward the dam either. Sad, but there is no such thing as respect(with a FEW exceptions). Most of the 50 yard rules I see, only apply if you are anchored and your trolling motor is up.

Samething happen to us last month. We blasted off and went to a point were we knew there was some fish and then a youth tourn. started bout 30 min after our. This moron brings two kids to our point and sits his boat down on top of us. I had a few words to say but bit my tongue because of the kids. Now this guy is teaching future anglers it is alright to jump on somebodys spot. Values and respect are no longer taught the way my father tought me. But its not just Ky lake its everywhere. Fished Percy Priest last weekend, we were fishing a road bed and this dumbazz comes by us in a kayak. I thought his paddle was going to hit the boat and then he says good morning. I told him the only thing that would have been good was when the person sold you the kayak he would have thrown in some respect with the deal!!!!

Re: where has the respect gone to on kentucky lake!!!!!!! (blazer202haulinass)

What I thought about doing is do a small video off my camera and make sure I get a good look at the boater and boat registration # and then post it on the BBC boards so everyone will know to look out for the disrespectful idiot. I was fishing last Saturday and pulled up on a ledge heading north and was going to turn and head back south. there was a boat on the same ledge heading south about 50 yards up from where I stopped and turned around. I made about 2 cast then pulled my trolling motor and turned turned the boat coming towards me and as i went up to them I said I'm sorry if it looked like I was trying to cut you off. That's not what I was doing and if you don't mind I'm going to go up a little farther and turn around and come behind you. he said no problem. I wasn't cutting them off but felt bad so I thought I did the right thing.

As far as someone doing it to me, whether they show respect for me or not when I'm on a spot, I will continue to be respectful. i don't want to bring myself down to their level and then someone put up a post about how they ran into me on a spot being a jerk. Besides after I did the right thing the Lord rewarded me for taking the hgh road and helped me pull a 3 1/2 lbder in the boat with 30 minutes left and put me over 21 lbs for the day.

Re: where has the respect gone to on kentucky lake!!!!!!! (mikes05triton)

I was at Paris landing Sat. I was fishing a comunity hole (aren't they all now?) and some guy in a Nitro with yellow strips pulls up on me and throws out a bouy close enough to me I could reach it with a cast. I caught a 4 lber right as he pulled up and held a little conversation with the guy in the back of his boat. The guy in the back seemed a little embarassed.
I also get tired of them damn pontoon boats running right over where I'm casting. All the while waving and saying HI.

Re: where has the respect gone to on kentucky lake!!!!!!! (blazer202haulinass)

J'ville was ten times worse last year it seemed. I had a few altercations. Only once where someone became disgruntled with me, as well as me getting ill at someone else. I haven't had a major incident yet this year.

I usually have a comfort zone of about 100 yds. If you are fishing within 100yds of a spot that I want to fish, before I get there, I'll leave or fish something close enough that I can wait for you to leave. It used to be that you didn't get within a 1/4 mile of someone but anymore its so much more crowded that you can't get a 1/4 mile away from another boat!

Sometimes it goes both ways too. The only time I've ever had a fellow angler get red with me. He was sitting right on a spot where I had found a school of great fish a few days prior. It was right after blast off. So I kept trucking and fished another spot close to a half mile away. He stayed there a pretty good while and when I went to make a move to a second spot I had to run by him. As I approached I noticed he had moved at least 300 yds north of the actual spot on the spot that I wanted to fish, and was still heading away from it. So we sat down and started fishing. He then kicks the trolling motor on high and comes all the way back to where we were and proceed to tell us how we are hole theives!

I said, "man, you were here this morning and I didn't crowd you, I kept going. And now you've moved a 1000' from where I want to fish and you still think I'm crowding you?" He said, "It doesn't matter, I'm fishing this whole 500 yd stretch of ditch" Well then I said man you can't really expect to be able to claim a spot that size out here as crowded as it is but if it'll make you happy I'll leave. He said, Naw, you can have it! and picked up and left. So we sat there and caught 26lb.

What I can't stand is for someone to see you catch a fish on a spot then pull up and try to fish it with you. Last year some dude fishing the TOT about got a DT16 upside the head!

pickwick has got pretty bad also, especially the last 3 years. everything is a community hole. you just got to have your timeing right on the ledges and hope to hit a hot school. i think the better the fishing get's the worse the crowds get wanting a piece of the pie.

Re: where has the respect gone to on kentucky lake!!!!!!! (JONHARDIN)

the way i see it is that the problems didnt occur until (in my mind) the b.a.s.s started coming to paris. i cant speak for the dam area. but the day the middle section of the lake turned on with the 27-31lbs bags being weighed it was like game over they all wanted a piece of it. at least next year they are not coming back so maybe ot will coool down cause when they come it sure brings out the gps pirates. now im no pro but ive done good on my own and yes had help from other anglers as well which i think we all have but i do enjoy carrying the kids to the live weigh-ins and let them enjoy all the activities they have to offer. take this for instance i put a rock pile in 14ft of water 2 yrs ago. gerald swindle found it hey thats cool he did his homework at studied the ledge and found it congrats to him, the bad there was only about 20 boats watching him catch 20lbs off of it and now well i carry the kids there and we fish for bream it has been rapped every since. but back to the topic it doesnt matter i was tought always to stay at least 300yds away and never get close and i tell my kids that also. one day they will be the sport and i hope it doesnt every get as it did that cold day in alablama when the guy pulled the gun. trust me when i say this i have some friends that would have called him a floater if he would have pulled a gun on them and for some rerason i think i believe them. but yes i try to not come down to there level but damn is hard not to.

Courtesy on the water is not just a problem between tournament anglers. Recently I was fishing a tournament on a ledge on Barkley when a boat with 4 guys (2 older men and 2 younger guys) decided they would put out their catfish noodles/jugs only 75 feet south of us. Here goes 30 jugs being pushed by a slight south breeze and the little bit of current TVA was pulling. Let me tell you, I was livid! I bit my tongue and assumed that they were to stupid to realize that their jugs were going to slowly drift across this 500 yard flat that 5 other boats were fishing. You couldn't cast anywhere! Now that, my friends, is inconsiderate. You can't fix stupid.

Can't stand juggers.....laziest "fisherman" in the world. They are so lazy they won't even hold a rod!! If the same had happened to me - I would have cut the line to all in my way and kept fishing. I especially love when you have to dodge 40 noodles in the channel.......

Re: where has the respect gone to on kentucky lake!!!!!!! (kread)

this will blow your mind we are fishing a club tournmament on wilson lake in florence alabama is was fishing some grass in town creek. when i just caught a freak of nature of a frog(frog fishing not for the nervous man)6.5lbs. these 3 gut hangers with there no shirts and cartoon of marbaros pull up and start picking up nets in the water man that thing was full of fish including 2 heft largemouths that were dead at this point. now take in mind i caught this fish less than 15 minutes after blast off and had 3 fish that weighed 15lbs. i still cant help but to think how it would have finished if them jerks hadnt pulled up and start picked up underwater nets.

Just jot their boat number down and put it on the web. You can always but names to the numbers. That way we can talk about them and see who they are, where they live and ( Key their vehichel )

I find its 99% tourny anglers who have no etiquitte on the water when it comes to pulling up close to other anglers. These guys will do anything to go back to the ramp to impress their club buddies and collect a 2-300$ prize pot, must be an ego thing.

Re: where has the respect gone to on kentucky lake!!!!!!! (blazer202haulinass)

I fished a tourney back in the spring going out of New Johnsonville. I was fishing a pea gravel bank up close to the clydeton area and sitting in about 14-16 ft of water. We were throwing c-rigs up to the bank and working them out. I was less than a cast away from the bank. Way down the bank, i see this boat running on pad. It was following the bank. I thought that any time, they'd cut around us giving us a wide berth. The nitwits cut between me and the bank while running on pad. No excuse for them as there was an entire flat to go around us. We had been catching fish all morning and I'd seen those guys in the area. I wonder if there were intentionally messing up the fish. I've seen inconsiderate bastages before, but this was the worst.

I can honestly say that I've not had a problem with bass fishermen on Ky Lake (of course I only fish during the week), but I can't say the same for crappie fishermen. I absolutely refuse to go near the Big Sandy area in the spring just for that reason.
