    1995 Johnson 150 Fast strike

My friend just called me today and said he had motor trouble last night and since I get on here all the time and read what's going on, I figured you guys may be able to help point him in the right direction. These were his words exactly: I was running down the lake when all of the sudden she just sat down on me so he shut it off, now keep in mind none of his alarms went off when this happened. He started it back up fine, went through his check codes and everything checked out. He put it in gear and hit the hot foot and the bow stood straight up on him for about 50 yards; he said it felt like it was only running on 3 cylinders then it hopped up on plane and did fine back to the boat launch at 5000 RPM's. He did say it's making a funny noise, even at idle. He took it home and this morning did a compression test. I'm not sure of the numbering system on these particular motors but if you're looking at the back of the motor, the top right had 0 PSI, the middle right had 60PSI, all other were at 120. Could this be something as simple as a head gasket or does it sound more serious than that?

Oh yeah, he said he took it back to the lake today after the compression test and just backed the trailer in and left the boat on the trailer and he said it fired right up. He checked the oil levels; they were fine. He checked the oil tank bulb and said it was hard too.

Thanks in advance for your time.

    ChampionMan, SEAHORSE, all ears guys.

Sounds like he lost a locating pin in the #2 piston lost it, then it took out #4. No head gasket in them guys O rings. Tell him to pull the head, don't sound good.

I called him to pull it and he said he was already one step ahead of me. He has it off now and said he can rub his fingernail around both walls and never find a spot that his fingernail will hang on. He said there are a few rough spots but nothing sanding wouldn't get out he says.

Does that help any or do you think he need to pull the pistons next?

He needs to rotate the flywheel and inspect the cylinder walls. Check for holes in the block. Inspect the head for damage. Sanding won't fix this. Boring or honing will. The motor needs to be torn down. And the components replaced.

Ok, I called him and told him, he just called me back and he's been checking them while his cousin has been turning the flyhwheel and he said it's nothing major all the way back through the cylinder walls just a few spots that his nail still won't even catch on. I told him to take it to the local mechanic but big_un just IM'd me and told me the local mechanic is going back in the hospital tomorrow.
