Check Engine Alarm

Ok, Sunday I am cruising along when suddenly my Check Engine light and alarm come on. I shut down, turn the engine off and then recracked it. The alarm would go off approximately 1 minute after cranking.

I take it to my mechanic and we plug in to the laptop and it shows "Water in Fuel" alarm. The alarm seemed to get more frequent with each ingintion. A sample of the gas did not show any signs of gas/water separation. I alway use Non-Ethanol fuel (supposedly).

Anyone have ideas? Is it possible to test the fuel for water? Mechanic said it may be EMM (computer).

you really need to let the fuel sit for quite awhile for the water to separate,an check it in a clear container,I think they put something in the gas to keep it mixed so it will burn or run threw the motor

When was the last time you changed the water seperator?

Did you sample the fuel inside the engine filter? That is where the sensor is.

If so, you did not reuse the filter, did you?

A leak could be dangerous as the filter is under fuel pump pressure, not vacuum like the one in the boat.

It's been a couple of years. I am going to the water seperator before I do anything else. I would assume that could be the issue.

Yes.

Yes. But I have only cranked it a few times since checking. I will change the filter before anything else.

Well, got the word today....It is the EMM. This stinks!

Anyone had to replace EMM?

Are you buying a new one on a factory exchange or getting it repaired by DFI Technologies?

I don't know... I haven't heard of DFI Technologies. Are they a good choice?
