Most of the time, hard starting in colder weather is due to a marginal battery, cable problems, or hidden corrosion on connectors. Battery output is reduced in cold temps so a heavier duty model is usually required.
You should be using a super heavy duty version that has 800+ CCA or 1000 MCA.
Use a voltmeter connected at the starter terminal and starter frame and watch the cranking voltage for 10 seconds. A healthy system should not go below 10 volts. If it does, then fix or repair as needed. This assumes that spark plugs, state of tune, and the internal health of the motor are in top notch condition.
Don't forget in temps below 40°F, you must use the synthetic XD-100 oil in the tank.
