    question about timing 150 intruder

I just look at my friend chads 150 intruder 1993 e150gletg

My timing arm where there is the notched spacer thing that locks it together is set on the second notch in on the + side with the low directly across.

His is set 2nd notch in on the - side his motor runs at a higher rpm then mine could this be related to my post

Re: question about timing 150 intruder (stratos 284 dc)

Try it. But most times re-builders back off WOT timing to save an over zealous owner from blowing it up before break in is complete. If he told you to come back after 10 hours so he could check the motor out then he will probably re-set the WOT timing. If you are done with break in then move it to where your friends is and try it.

Re: question about timing 150 intruder (ChampioNman)

I think i need to explain better

I bought my boat 3 years ago from a guy in my bass club. He had the powerhead rebuilt in 2002. He said it would do 63 before he got it rebuilt, after he said it was never as fast.

When i bought it the pad height was 8 1/2 inches. Motor turned 4600 rpm 55mph
    14 1/2 24 raker2

I put a cnc jackplate on it got the pad height up ran 5000 at like 56.5 i think. Then i got a 14 1/4 23p tempest plus. Run that now an before my powerhead blew up it would go 5300-5400 57.8mph but would have to raise the jackplate to get the rpm up.

Now my powerhead blew up number 2 rod through the case. I bought a new one and installed it myself. Used great care taking the old one apart and putting the new one together. Followed the manual i have. I did everything it said the link n sync everthing except mess with the timing because you need the analyzer tool.
i installed the timing setup just as it was on my old powerhead.

I think the marina who orginally rebuilt the powerhead adjusted the timing to save the powerhead from abuse and it never got re adjusted.

Im concerned about moving the timing an messing it up with out the tool, but to me it looks like you loosen the detent screw on move it over.

Im willing to try after the breakin is complete just lookin for some reasurence.

Also curious if the extra oil 50:1 in the tank plus vro will effect my wot rpm
right now i get 5000 56 mph same prop

Motor runs great ive been checking my oil tank just to be sure im using oil and it is.

So if im that far on the plus side would that effect my rpm?
Chads motor rips on the top end compared to mine i know different boat different prop. Put you can just tell it eats on the top end and mine seems like it just falls off

Im also curious if have the timing advanced (i think thats what it is) for years would cause the powerhead to let loose
