Hi Jeff, Welcome back to the Cobra forum of the BBC....you've been here before haven't you ?
First, if your stress fractures are fixed "CORRECTLY" they shouldn't come back. Are there a lot of them ?? You can always take the tip of a razor blade, and on the very end of each fracture use the tip of the blade and kinda drill a tiny hole on it. That should keep the fracture from traveling any further until you can get it fixed.
Second, the company has changed hands numerous times since your boat was built so there is no warrenty left on your hull....sorry.
thx kathy, yea they are gettin to be alot. none around the transom most around the driver and passenger seat.i will do the razor blade trick, how big of a hole do i need to make? o yea i just found the site a few weeks ago i have posted a few questions.

You're welcome Jeff
I'd say about the size of the tip of a pencil lead or maybe a toothpick......you are creating a little cavity for the fracture to run into and then it can't travel any further. Be sure and get right on the end of the fracture.
I guess I should tell you that this method will keep the fractures from traveling thru the gel coat any further. If the glass is fractured beneath the gel coat then with time and vibration a new one might show up.
But I am thinking they are all gel fractures. Good Luck and let me know if I can help you with anything else![]()
I have a 1996 188 D. I have stress cracks all over the rail of my boat. Both sides have cracks that extend from the foward cleat all the way to the consoles along the seam where the two different gell coat colors come together. Half way between the foward cleat and the console there is a crack that extends from the top of the rail to the rub rail, it looks real nasty. Numerous cracks around the rear transum area and also between the consoles and the rail. I hope this boat stays together! Can't afford another!

This is on a friends boat that's about 14 years old. Is this anything to worry about?

YES, the stain coming from around the eye bolt most likely indicates rot going on in the transom from water intrusion. The big stress cracks are probably from the weakened transom flexing. Not good signs at all.

I may be remembering wrong, but there may be some old resto jobs of those boats in the Bassboat Restoration forum where people pulled the top caps off and did a full hull rebuild with new stringers and transom. Lots of work involved, but would last a lifetime.
