    Blazer boat question?

    I am the proud happy owner of a 1993 Blazer VLX 120, 16.5 ft, 5 1/2 inch
Hi-Jacker plate, 115 Johnson, 20 pitch Raker prop. I was wondering what does the VLX stand for. Most of the Blazer boats just have a number for the hull size. Is there any information about this hull I should expect, is it lite or heavy, does it like the motor mounted high or low on transom, bow lift, chine, etc.

    Any info is appreciated.

    Thanks

    Jeff

That is actually a fast rig for its size. A couple of friends of mine back home in Pensacola had them, but I don't remember the set ups.

    Re: Blazer boat question? (cajunjeff)

I have one 93 model to be exact , i have a 2.0l merc, 8 inch bobs jackplate, seems to be the ideal setback for my set up want to try 2 inch spacers though, just to see if there is a difference.hydrualic steering from seastar . i have a 24 pitch chopper 2 inches below the pad, with 15 pound of water psi, I turn 6200 rpms at 73.9 mph gps unloaded , full of gas. very fun boat.
used to have serous chinewalk, finally figured out how to drive out of it.hull weight dry is 900 pounds according to nada. so I guess it is pretty lite for what it is. hope this helps.

    Re: Blazer boat question? (Rebel1)

Thanks for your reply. My best speed has been 54 mph gps with me and my wife full gear, 1/2 tank of fuel and empty livewells. I am very happy with the boat. I up graded from a 1978 Venture to this little Blazer. One day I might get me a bigger Blazer but that will have to wait.

Thanks again and good luck to you.

    Hey Billy,

Thank you for the reply. What size motor is the 2.0litre Merc. Your boat is super fast. I had my engine set up at 4 inches below the pad. I had great bow lift but the boat would walk real bad and the stern was low in the water. I raised the engine to 3 1/2 below pad and it now jumps up on pad and the boat does not walk. I did give up some bow lift but the whole boat lifts better now that it gets on the pad. I am thinking about trying to raise it to 3 inches below the pad and see what happens.

    Thanks again for your help.

    A 2.0 is a older mercury 135 or 150 before the 2.4 and 2.5 liter motors.

Rusty is right 135 to 150 , but mine is a 93 model motor.

That's sounds like a great boat/motor combo. Now I wish that I would have gone with a bigger motor. Wanting to go faster is addicting. One day when my 115 bites the dust I will look for more hp and more SPEED!!!

Everybody here is so helpful. Thank you.

    Re: Blazer boat question? (cajunjeff)

I think it is a good combo too!! I started out with a 120 evinrude and a 5.5 vance jackplate with a 24 raker 3 1/2 inches below the pad . It would run 60 gps flat out unloaded ,could not stand that blue motor!!!
