    Exercise gives you the munchies

Spent the last two monthson and off getting my fat azz used to a bicycle seat agin on my new trainer and bike. With this nice weather I've been knocking out 3-7 miles every other day. Yesterday I was ready for 10 easy but the Mrs has been more into running while I've been into the cycle. I got tired of waiting on her.

We stopped long enough for me to lower the seat and let her see the difference between a decent bike and her free used Wally World bike was. That move is likely going to cost me.

I stopped smoking and wanted to get back in shape to feel better and I do but good lord this healthy stuff makes you hungry as a bear coming out of hibernation.

Re: Exercise gives you the munchies (JohnM)

I find that when I hit it early in the morning I'm hungry all day. Mainly due to the metabolism running wide open after the stimulation from exercise. I try to come in and have a protein shake right after a workout. Fills me up and keeps me away from the bad stuff.

Just eat healthy after you workout. I am finding lots of light snacks and lighter meals work better than loading up in one meal.

Munch on dehydrated fruit to combat the urge to eat. You can buy it by the bag at the gro. store.

Eat something before exercising. Something like a granola bar is fine. Drink water during your exercise program. When you're done, you should feel more like puking than hungry. If not, exercise harder.

Chief I think the instructions for that are on page 412. :)

Walkabout when I was serious about riding we always ate BEFORE going out. I'm just surprised that what I would have considered a warm up is now a work out. Funny how far you can get out of shape thinking you are not that far out of shape in less than a decade.

I always used to gain weight when I worked out a bunch. After working out I would always be hungry and I figured hey I just worked out I can eat now. So I kept eating and kept getting bigger. Partly I was lifting and trying to get bigger too. Now I still have to consciously prevent myself from overeating when working out.

The Air Force was always on my butt about weight so I always stuck with cardio. I was one happy camper when they went to body fat measurements vs strict height and weight. I found some old pics

My son is now 25, time goes by so fast!

Uncle Sam rated me as "Obese" in my medical records though I was the bike leg of a mixed military triathlon team that took second overall in the state of Virginia while I was stationed there.

Back then there were bikes Made in the USA that were somewhat affordable.

I may never get back in that kind of shape but helping take care of all the seniors in my family that seem to be in bad health (one in his late 50's had a stroke a week ago on top of all the others) and reading all the members here with problems there is no reason to be a knot on a log any longer. I have years of training going to waste.
