back to a bullet need some setup info??????

sorry guys been in a triton for the past yr or so but finally found a 1998 21xd and i wasnt fixin to passs it up. not to mention these things are hard to find in tennesse for a reasonable price. ok i bought the boat and can easily tell before i even run it the motor is 3-3.5 inches below the pad and its turning a 25 tempest. has a 12 inch jackplate. motor is 02 225 optimax. what are most setups on this kind of boat to be able to run in the upper 70's. let me know what others have who have the same boat and motor. thnaks in advance

Test a 27-28 txp-ot4 jacked up to 2 in below the pad and go up from there.

28 txp ot4 will be way too much prop IMHO , 27 will be marginal as I run that on my 250xs/21xrd and rpm's are perfect...........done lots of prop testing in a nearly identical rig as yours...........set jackplate at 1.25" below pad......all numbers are two people going fishing with 1/2 tank of gas in decent weather (not scorching hot)

27 Trophy was fastest we tried, B&B by Mark, 76.5-77.5

27 Hydromotive, B&B by Mark, medium cupping, great holeshot, dual PVS is good in cooler weather but needs one of the holes larger for warmer months, 75-77

    26 txp OT4, B&B by Mark, 73-75.5

28 Bravo, B&B by Mark (this will be too much prop), good holeshot though with 1-1/16" vent hole with one PVS behind it, 75-76.5, couldnt turn it to full RPM's

    these were on a 225 EFI/21XD

I don't think a 28 pitch TXP-OT4 is to much, I have a 2003 21XD with a 2004 3.0 liter 225 EFI mercury, and I ran in the cooler weather 82.6 on the gps with over half a tank of gas, me and all my fishing stuff, I ran the other day 81.1 with a full tank of gas humid weather and all my fishing stuff. I have a 14" jack plate and I'm 1.5 below the pad, torquemaster gearcase 1.75 gears. At 82.6 I'm 100 rpm below the rev limiter. So he can turn it more than likely. I had help on the set up from Mike Lohn , he know's what it takes....

I understand but this guy was asking for setup for his rig which is a stock motor, non EFI.........yours is VERY strong, in fact, those are numbers my 250xs/21xrd won't run loaded and I can guarantee my 250 won't turn a 28 txp OT4.......I have a 27 that it turns 6100 in cold weather.......mine's an '08 model and there could be something wrong with it but most folks don't realize that there is less than 20 horsepower between a 225ProXS and a 250XS ......a 225 EFI is likely even closer.......I've always thought EFI's were stronger than the ProXs and XS motors myself......either way, I was giving him my experiences in the same rig........I've personally tested over a dozen props in a 21xd/225 EFI and 225 ProXS

My 2005 225 opti limiter was 5750. I have no input on props becasue my bullet is still being built.

Re: back to a bullet need some setup info?????? (21XDC)

Ran a 26 trophy and 27 tempest. Tempest was the best results took a little bit to come out of the hole but i just need to pull a ring out of the prop should be fine then. Will say this this 21xd rides like a dream compared to the 20xd i had.

The 27 tempest should hit the limiter with ease...

Re: back to a bullet need some setup info?????? (blazer202haulinass)

I have the same setup as u but my 225 is an efi. 12" setback and I'm about 1 1/4 below pad. I'm
running a 26 trophy plus right now and by myself I hit my limiter with no problem. That's running 74.1 mph. We had a prop test day down here and I ran a 27 trophy plus and I was running right below 5850 at 76.3 mph. I have a 29 tempest for it but don't run it no more. I plan on plugging the top four holes on water intake to come up another 1/4" to try a 27 txp ot 4.
