    Heading to Louisville

Wife and I are coming out next weekend for the long Labor Day weekend. Will arrive early on Friday and depart late on Sunday and staying at the Hyatt. This will serve as our honeymoon since we did not get one in June when we were married.

Any ideas on what to do that would coincide with the nature of our trip? Looking for stuff we can do together that fits into a honeymoon type trip as neither one of us as ever been there. Again any help would be great! Thanks in advance...

If you wanna have a really nice meal downtown (not sure how much you wanna spend probably $100-$150 for 2 with drinks and all) not far from the Hyatt try Morton's Steakhouse on Main St., 4 star. Blows Ruth Chris away in my opinion. You could always try a cruise on the Belle of Louisville or the Star of Louisville. They have sunset cruises I believe with dinner and all. (Never actually done it but heard it's nice.) 50 Yards from where you are staying is 4th Street Live as well. With night clubs, pubs, and a few nice restaurants. Also something I like to do is head out to Bardstown Rd/Baxter Ave and go to the Comedy Caravan, they always seem to have some good stand up comedy talent in there. Also waterfront park (right by your hotel) is a nice place to walk by the river after dinner or something. Also there is always the Louisville Slugger Museum, The Louisville Riverbats (AAA baseball if in town that weekend.), Glass works (can blow your own glass stuff ), there is also something else I've heard of but never done is Derby Dinner Play House (Dinner and a Play.), and Muhammad Ali museum.

Also Bass Pro Shops is 5 min from your hotel too. They also have restaurant on the third level. Not bad either.

Other nice restaurants: Avalon, John E's, Jack Fry's, Pat's Steakhouse........

Eric pretty well hit on some of the finer points of Louisville

The Louisville Glass Works is pretty neat, or at least my girlfriend really thought so We made our own Christmas ornaments that turned out really cool, except I messed mine up a little by blowing too hard - it's more egg shaped than round It was a very interesting experience.

Anyone I've talked to that took a ride on the Belle of Louisville or the Star really really liked it! Also, Captain's Quarters is the best "on the river" dinning and offers a great place to watch the sunset. They offer a dinner cruise as well on the Captain's Queen (CQ). I highly recommend a romantic dinner and sunset there.

A great place for breakfast is Lynn's Paradise Cafe on Barret Avenue. The breakfast food is AWESOME! It's one of the most visited breakfast places in town, a tourist hotspot, therefore it's a little more expensive than you would expect for breakfast, but definitely some good eatin' !

Muth's Candy Store on Market St is probably one of the best candy stores in town - it has a long standing history in Louisville and is famous for it's Modjeskas and their Bourbon Balls are absolutely awesome!

The Louisville Zoo is always a fun date. An elephant was born a couple months ago, named "Scotty" and it's always fun to watch him romp around with his momma and splash around in the water. A baby Pygmy Hippo was born and a couple of other babies were born recently. A day at the zoo is always enjoyable.

As for the bar scene, there's plenty to choose from! One of my favorite treats is to stop in the Maker's Mark bar at 4th Street Live and have a drink called an "Old Fashioned." It's an awesome drink that originated in Louisville. I like kicking back with one of those and a big ol' Maker's Mark cigar in the Maker's Mark bar.

I believe Kenny Rogers is in town Labor Day weekend, and the flea market is going on as well.

    Good Luck and have fun!
