    Water Pressure Gauge Connection

I finally removed my injectors and shipped them out today.

I've been thinking about getting a WP gauge. If it's easy, I will install 1. If it's going to be a pain or require someone else do it, I might not bother getting it done. Still undecided.

Anyways while under the hood, I was trying to see where I'm suppose to tap into for the WP gauge.I noticed this plug. Is that where I install a fitting and connect to?

    Motor is a 2005 Merc 60 4-Stroke EFI #1B144455

    John:

Yes, remove the plug you've noted in your above photo. This is an appropriate location to tap into the cooling system to monitor water pressure.

Re: Water Pressure Gauge Connection (EuropeanAM)

Just checked my tracking. Shows there was an attempt to delivery, but shop was closed.

Anyways, got a couple more questions.

Would it be best to use a straight fitting or angled version? I assume it's a good idea to use thread sealant? Anything to watch out for?

Also about my injectors during reinstallation. I sent an email inquire about reinstallation tips. I was recommended to use 2-stroke oil on the o-rings and rails. Is this still recommended on my 4-stroke or should I use something else? Also, what rails? Looking over the exploded parts diagram. I may be over analyzing this also.

    I don't have any 2-stroke oil.

Thread sealant (paste-type teflon would be best) should be utilized on the threaded fitting. You can utilize EITHER a straight, or a 90 degree fitting (just make certain there's adequate clearance to TURN the 90 degree fitting while tightening).

2-stroke oil is definitely recommended for the o-rings when installing injectors. If you don't have any- for this particular purpose, you could obtain a small 3oz bottle at almost any store that sells small engine equipment (weedeaters, lawn mowers, leaf-blowers, etc).

On your engine, the "rail" is essentially a plastic coupler with a line, and fits over the INLET end of the injector (held in place with a clip).

The Pipe Plug "size" is not denoted in the Parts Catalog.

As I recall, there is a fitting in the gauge kit that will screw into this opening, with a slip-connect hose fitting built in.

Don't quote me on this... but it seems like it's 1/16 x 27 NPT.

I installed my injectors today. Went on much easier than removing them from the injector caps.

Anyways, while I had the cover off, I ran my new w/p tubing into the motor. I removed the plug on the motor.

On the back side of the plug, it looks like it's corroding and knarly looking. It looks perfectly fine along the threads on the plug, but on the what I assume use to be flat end, is no longer flat.

I look in the engine hole and see a honey comb look to the gunk in there with a ~1/8" hole. I poked at the edge of this crust and it breaks easily. Paper thin and now the actual hole is the right size.

It looks to be maybe just dirt and crap.

I'm assuming it's a good idea to remove the thermostat housing and clean it all out?

Or can I just get a can of compress air and spray all the crap out through the w/p fitting.

    Re: (BoatNoobie)

Better option would be to leave the plug out, connect the engine to a flush attachment, and start the engine.

Let it run long enough for WATER to flush the debris from the opening.

Then shut down and proceed with your installation.
