    Duck Hunting in Salt Water

I have Duck hunted many many times over Lakes, Ponds (all fresh water). But never out in the bay over saltwater. I am kind of nervous about taking my gun out there as I know what the salt will do to a fishing reel or other equipment. I guess I will need to break down the entire gun and clean thouroughly after the hunt ? Anything else you guys do before hunting over saltwater to protect your stuff..?

When I hunt salt water I flush teh gun with fresh water as soon as I get home. I then completely take it apart and wipe it down and lube it. It has always worked for me.

I have been shooting my Benelli SBE for close to ten years now and it see's a lot of saltwater use. I always hit the gun up with WD-40 when I get home and tear it completely apart maybe twice a year if I'm lucky to clean out all the build up from the WD-40 and whatever else is in there.

I have never had a problem with a shell not firing or the gun not cycling but then again it is a Benelli.

yup, no worries if shooting a benelli.

all we hunt are saltwater marshes over here and i may spray my gun down with oil if it gets real dirty on a hunt, other than that i dont worry about it until after season and then i'll break it down and clean it really good. Been doing it for years with no problems

Good ole WD40 should do the trick just fine and it will mostly evaporate in a short time itself.

If it's black, it might rust if you don't put any protection on it. If it's camo, should be fine. Just take care of it. If it's a Benelli, then (not sure why someone wouldn't as much as they cost) put a thin layer of gun oil on it....The Beretta Extrema is built for that stuff. I am pretty sure I could leave mine on the ocean floor and it won't rust.
