Thanks for the article. There is some good info here but she has a slanted view on most of it. The price issue is WAY out of line, at least for how we price them. Last I looked (this morning) Boat US offered financing services AND they sell service contracts. They must not think they are that bad if they sell them to thier members.
The big difference is that an Extended Warranty can only come from a manufacturer, third party companies offer Service Contracts. You also need to watch because most companies only let you buy at the time of sale, either new or used. That is the only way they know things are in working order when the contract is sold.
As in anything, read and do your homework. We represent two very solid and established service contract companies, as well as Merc and Yamaha through our dealers. Having a piece of mind in hedging repair costs is priceless.
