    Thinking about refurbishing my boat

I own a 1996 nitro 896 savage and I want to replace the Transome because even though it is dry now the top was wet about a year Ago. Yes it is still solid but I plan on getting rid of the dings and stories aka chips in gel and replace seats. Carpet was done not to long ago within a year and it made it look nice but if I'm going to be re gel coating the boat it has to come out as well. What would a average cost be to fix minor scratches, gouges and re gel a 20' boat also about how much should I be looking at for Transome replacement . Basically I want a new boat on my old hull lol I will keep you posted with what I find

Well if the gouges are not bad you should not need the whole boat done. It would be good for the Restore guys to see pics. There are some GREAT guys on here as you probably know already.

Short list of things to come:
Fix bottom of boat and remove scratches and gouges (possibly re gel)
Replace Transome (this will be done by the pros so I have a warrantee)
    Install electronics (LCX 28hd)
Re cover seats (plan is to have them done while in shop for transom)
Have new trailer built or build new trailer mine is crap and falling apart.
My plan is to have this done in the next year or two I am in no rush to do any of this but all will be eventually done. As for now i will continue to fish from this platform cause it really is not as bad as i make it out to be. I have come to the conclusion that all of this would be still cheaper than buying a new boat plus I kinda like this one now. But it would be nice to have a boat that looks new.

All this, done in a shop will cost more than the boat is worth.

Competent glass shop work is not cheap.

New transom around $ 2500, IF they do not run in to any rotted stringers, if they have to replace those, add another grand or so.
Repair hull and spray new gelcoat on a 20 footer could run around $ 2500.
You have a tube trailer under the Nitro that is probably rusted from the inside out and will need to be replaced, new, maybe $ 1500 for a generic one.
New seat skins and install around $ 600.

That's Lot of money to put into a 15 year old boat.

Book price on the boat is right around 6 grand in nice shape.

I'm thinkin' $5-6k for the transom and hull - that's where you save money big time on the D-i-Y but spend hours and days ....and weeks.. in the garage........if you are thinking of getting a shop to do it, I'd be more inclined to sell the boat as is and put all the $ into a newer boat.....
