Transom rebuild question - Seacast product

I picked up an old hull the other day. The transom was gone in it and the previous owner cleaned all the old plywood and stuff out of the old transom. They have it all cleaned out and I picked it up ready to pour a new Seacast transom. Is anyone familliar with this product? Any tips? Do I need to try and put plywood in there too or is the seacast sufficient?

Aaron, have you visited the SeaCast web site? If the old wood is completely gone and you follow their instructions I believe it will be fine. They clam they have used it in some pretty high performance set-ups. What kind of hull did you find, did the transom have knee braces, does it need to bond to the stringers. Um lets see how many more questions can I come up with. I looked at their site when I was repairing my transom and only dicided not to use it due to overall cost. Just remember that once the SeaCast transom is poured it still must be covered with glass and resin, the same as wood. Good Luck and have fun with your project.

    I dont trust it.
Im afraid it will be too brittle and end up cracking.

Larry, I have not looked at the Seacast website yet. I just picked up the boat the other day and the guy has everything prepped to pour the seacast... all i've got to do is mix and pour, he already bought everything. it's a Terry bassboat. I'm not sure what you mean by knee braces or bonding to the stringers.

Knee Brace- an angled piece of wood from the transom down to the main stringers. Usually two, tie the transom to the stringers too help apply lift throughout the whole boat instead of just on the transom. Look at someof the rebuild pictures at the top of the resto page and you will notice what I mean. Bonding - I just ment if the transom was attatched to the stringers in any way. What size is the boat and what HP is it rated for?

I saw you post in the Lounge. The SeaCast should handle a 90 horse without any prob.

    Great... it's a 16', and there's no coast guard plate, but I figure it'll handle a 90 w/ a brand new transom
