Tough Day, is about all I can say. With high pressure dominating, no clouds, and no wind, it made for a slow day. We had a good turnout for the the first event of the year, 22 boaters and 2 non boaters showed up to fish today, and i believe two new members joined the ABA today, welcome. Now for the fishing, we started out with about a 30 minute fog delay, and even then it was a slow run to get to the first stop. It took 6.6 something to win today, yes that is 6 lbs! with 2nd going at 6.3, third and 4th were in the mid to upper 5s and that is a 5 fish limit. I ended the day in 9th place with 3 fish for 4.14, on a day when keepers were hard to come by, you can't afford to lose fish, as i lost two that would have given me my limit. I began the day down on the causeway, and did not get a single strike anywhere in the vicinty of the cause way. I then moved up to raft river /oak bayou, and caught a few keepers and a few shorts on plastics, I could not get a moving bait bite to save my life, so i stuck with plastics the rest of the day, around 1045 i put my third fish in the boat, and headed up river towards tensaw lake, looking for a little bigger fish. I should have stayed put! Not one bite up river, threw c-baits, t-rig, jigs, spinnerbaits. So that was about my day. I did not here what others were throwing, but would assume most fish were caught on plastics, or some folks may have gotten on a topwater bite first thing tis AM. So all in all it was a very tough day for all anglers, and i would say i learned a lesson (again) here, worry about a limit first before trying to catch bigger fish! ABA runs out of Cliffs landing the last sunday of every month.
