    2009 225 ProXS - Low Engine Temps

So, had a tourney on the Mississippi (Pool 13) this weekend... and you can imagine the rest...

Running out of a lake, had to avoid another boat coming around a blind corner and got stuck on a sandbar. Shut it down and got my shoes wet... knees stayed dry

Telltale was plugged, but had plenty of water pressure once we got into deeper water. But, the engine temp would get no higher than 100 degrees. Had a pretty good run back to the ramp, so I kept it below 4K with the damn alarm giving me a headache.

Got it home and flushed the motor with the hose hookup. Pulled the telltale hose and flushed it (Pretty much packed with sand). Put on the muffs and still could not get temps up.

Called mech. and told him I must have a thermostat stuck open. He says drop it off and we will check Poppet and Thermo... and drop LU to remove any sand.

What else should we look at? I ask not because I don't trust my mech (he's the best in our area!)... but because our Resident Expert always has an idea or two.

    You've got the right idea.

I'd also recommend running the engine for 45-60 seconds (on earmuffs) with the POPPET VALVE REMOVED. This will result in straight-thru water flow.

-Clean or replace thermostats as necessary
-Clean or replace poppet as necessary
-REPLACE WATER PUMP IMPELLER AND GASKETS (at a minimum).... and be sure to flush out the water intake passages in the gearcase!

Of course... test run when finished, and ensure good water pressure, and 115 degrees MINIMUM temp at idle speed (after warm-up)

Thanks Don! I think I will hang around the shop when he pulls the poppet valve, could be a good lesson for sometime when I am away from home and need to flush it.

I like the low water pickups when running WOT, but they sure are big holes and low in the water when even idling around in our shallow water. Of course, this case does not apply... I had no reason to even try running this little chute!

    Results are in.

Impeller scuffed pretty bad - REPLACED
Thermostats lots of sand and rocks - REPLACED
    poppet valve - OK

He is worried about the pressure sensor... he said it was packed pretty good. Will water test tomorrow.
