    epoxy rod finish ?

why does it dry on some and not on others ? i have split the grip on about 12 rods recently and some of the epoxy cures and some never does .even in the same batch? whatever i have left i put on my rod block and it cures ? i read on one of the pages to put another coat on and it will cure is this the best thing to do ? and some of this is on thread wrap and some on bare blank?

Re: epoxy rod finish ? (gambler4)

This may not be much help, but whenever I have an epoxy problem, I am always at fault. All of the major epoxy manufacturers make good products. It is either a measuring or mixing problem. Why it works on some parts and not on others is not an easy call. Perhaps it has to do with how much is being put on, or residual solvent (alcohol). But to one of your questions, you can either give ot an extra day to cure and if it is still tacky, add one more coat, and give it some extra time to cure. The alternative would be to cut everything off and start over. Remember, the epoxy coats are forever. Make sure you like the final look.
    Hope this helps

That is a good question. Through "experience", I wonder if you mixed the epoxy well enough? I did a bone head thing once where I poured the epoxy components together, screwed the lids on the bottles...then forgot to stir it up. Some dried, other areas remained tacky. That was all I could figure out...and I felt pretty silly...to say the least.

I use Threadmaster and have had no problems when I follow the instructions. One thing that I do is to warm the resin about 20 seconds, so it is easier to suck into the syringe and measure.

    Food for thought......George
