    Re: Swim Jig (FISHON317)

I've used the Kevin Van Dam swim jigs and they are pretty good, but I recently purchased some swim jigs from Yank'em Jigs. I really like Brad's jigs a lot. He's a great guy and will customize the colors for you if you like. Check them out at:

I also ordered some swim jigs from Brovarneys. They are supposed to be good but I haven't recieved them yet so I'm not sure how they compare to the others.

    Re: Swim Jig (FISHON317)

    These are my opinions:

I swim a jig most of the year in water from 0-30+feet. The best i have seen on the market for open water and sparse cover are the brovarney. A lot of people have copied them I believe on their swim jig designs.

For heavy cover, high speed retrieves and active fish, the booyah is hard to beat. the guy that originally designed it designed it for burning and you can flat sure burn it through and over most anything you get it into. I have corresponded with him a few times and it is a very good swim jig. You just have to tie your own skirts. I know some folks using Roboworm's heavy flipping jig for swimming and love it as well.

All terrain tackle used to have the best all around until they removed the wire trailer keeper which killed it for me. If you are swimming a jig, you need a good trailer keeper.

I used to have local shop that poured their own that has the most unique fall I have seen, but he went out of business. Good thing I had over 100 poured and tied for me before he did. I am down to about 45 or 50.

    Just my thoughts.

If you are looking for something a little bit different, give these a shot. Due the use of a blade, and it's inherent weed/grass tangling, we went the the traditional arkey type head. Arkey heads provide more stability as the lure lands on the bottom during lift/drop type retrieves.

I would have to say brovarney baits, for swilliams the key in heavy cover is to simply not stop reeling, the moment you do it will roll just enough for the hook to catch but if you keep swimming it nice and steady you should have no problems whatsoever.

I make my own swim jigs I use a poison head swim jig for standard swimming jig with a 30 degree round bend hook instead of the ewg they recommend I also had Ron Hammondtree make me a mold similar to the bass asault and the KVD swim jig I also have another one from Ron that is a copy of the daves tournament tackle but uses a little heavier hook both of these models work great in the grass.

As far as adding a blade I would attach it to the hook with a piece of heat shrink over the eye of the swivel

For night fishing I use either a candy bug or black magic both can be bought from fishing skirts.com

Dirty jigs and Santone both make a great swim jig with a heavy hook. Dirty jigs has awesome colors also!

Take a look at the new Brandon Mcmillan Signature Series 4x4 Swim Jig! Brandon won an Everstart event at Lake Seminole using this jig this year and Justin Lucas also scored a 2nd place on the Potomac River in the FLW Tour event. It is the only swim jig I have in my boat. Check em out at www.4x4bassjigs.com

Doesn't that blade arm interfere with hooksets? I have been adding a blad and swivel to the hook bend like a trailer hook. I like the addition of a blade on the swim jig.

I like Booyah Boo Jigs in 5/16 and 3/8 oz. Cheap and readily available with a pretty good head for swimming.

Also, I've used the willow blade and swivel as a trailer with good success.
