what will happen if i use a 1 1/4oz spinnerbait on a rod that is 3/8-1oz,im not going to throw it everyday, just from time to time.will it suddenly brake will it wear out over time.any help would be appreciated.thanks Chad

i dont think youll break it - it just wont be very well balanced-----it will feel too limber for that big ol bait

i always find matching the reel to the rod(line size) and then the rod to the bait(weight wise) will give you a smoother working system. there was a time when i just threw any reel on any rod and that was fine til i matched everything up. becomes smoother and longer casts. but like you said it is a once and a while deal. you should fine. plus you are using a rod rated for upto 1oz. its not like you ae using a rod rated for upto 1/2 oz.
Tou will probably want a heavier rod for the bigger bait. You will get better hook-ups.

That 3/8 - 1 oz is just a guideline, if its a heavier action rod you'll probably be fine. Only way to find out is try it. I'd be sure to use line at the top of the "guideline" rating.
