So I just got my boat back after having an 8 " atlas jack plate installed. They used the third hole from the top on the motor to mount to the plate. They mentioned they used the third hole to make sure I could raise the motor enough. They also installed the digital gauge which reads 1 (bottom) - 20 (highest)

So I got a chance to do some measurements today. 2.5 - 2 3/4 inches below pad is where I'm told I should be for best performance.

Pad is 13 1/2 "

Prop is 11 " @ #6 on gauge
= 2.5 "

Prop 10 1/2 " @ #4 on gauge
= 3 "

Prop 10 " @ #1 on gauge
= 3 1/2 "

Somebody double check the math! lol

So my question. Do I need more downward range? Should I change motor mount holes as to give me more adjustment down and use more of the range of the plate? If I move the motor to the top mounting hole wouldn't that give me the option to be much lower that 3 1/2 " below pad and still allow me to get back up to 2.5 " below pad? Or should I simply leave it?

Hopefully someone will understand what I'm trying to ask!
