    Sebastian fishing

While I am a 100% bass chaser at home in TN I have a chance to go with a friend and fish a week in the Sebastian area of the Indian River. What do I take in the way of equipment:Rods, line, etc? I understand that it is still fishing, using shrimp. My wife and I are totally ignorant of this type fishing and we will appreciate any suggestions you may make. Thanks a million and have a great week. We'll be there 9/1-9/8.

Take your standard bass tackle, spinning and baitcasting. Put three feet of 20 lb. florocarbon leader on. You will be fine for redfish, trout, ladyfish, jacks, saltwater cats, snapper. The 20 lb. may not hold up to big snook, but they are not inshore so much right now. If you want to throw artis and you should, go with a big zara spook or chug bug. Pick up some DOA shrimp or put some GULP shrimp on a jighead. Oh, and don't be afraid to throw some bass tackle, spinner baits, Horney Toads, flukes, senkos. Please post a report if you go. I used to fish and I miss the hell out of it.

Make sure you oil your reels before and make sure you rinse them really well afterwards and re-oil. Saltwater is hard on tackle.

Thanks very much friend. I had forgotten about Red Fish being there. My thing is smallies and a good friend who fishes the Gulf Coast told me that if I liked smallies I would love catching Red Fish. Thanks for all you input. I'm getting things ready now and will certainly follow your advice. I appreciate it and will certainly give a report of our week soon as I get back to the Volunteer State. Have a great week and again, many thanks.

    Re: Sebastian fishing (xpress-way)

Hey, I had totally forgotten about the salt water bug. Thanks much for that little bit of important information. I know very well what salt water can do to equipment. Once, many moons ago, I took my boat to Daytona Beach and put it in a marina overnight and the drain plug leaked and the back end sank down to nearly cover the engine. Needless to say, I was never able to get the carbs (carbs in the old days, long before fuel injection) jets and passage ways cleaned out. I eventually had to replace them.

Have a great week and thanks again for the tip.
