My 1999 225 Ficht is stalling every time I try to go into reverse... HELP....

Sorry couldn't resist. I am sure one of the mechanical gurus will be here in a moment to help you out. Sorry to hear about all your problems. Remember its not the boat giving you the problems. When you have spent all the time and gotten it right you will be proud.![]()
It supposedly has a new shift interrupter switch in it that I gave to my mech to put in. Are there adjustments on that to be done? Supposedly my mech had fixed this problem. He had mentioned something about adjusting a cable (shift linkage cable?) under the throttle cable. But the previous owner had said he had had problems and his mech had made an adjustment to the shift interrupter (when I test drove the boat it worked fine..) so he had bought a new one and gave it to me. So I figured I'd give it my mech and have him put the new one in while the boat was there. NOW it stalls everytime I try to put it in reverse! Oh and where is the shift interrupter located?

Not a DI kinda guy, but try this pull off the cowl and look for the shift linkage on the motor, follow it back to the end and the shift interrupter should be right under the linkage. CM![]()
If the linkage is ok and not binding, there is no wires or hoses under the shift interrupter.....Look at the spark plugs....if the gap is to wide on the plugs it could cause the motor to die when going into gear, it is imperative that the shift cable is adjusted correctly.
It shifts and goes fine into forward. It's only when going into reverse. Talked to a mech. today who said it is probably the shift linkage that needs to be adjusted. If I give it a little gas when going into reverse it will go in and stays in and runs fine. I'm just going to leave it as is for now and let the mech deal with it when my hydraulic jackplate goes back on next week.
