Evinrude 200 HO Question for ChampionMan

I was pointed to ChampionMan as a good source for Evinrude quesitons. I am looking at upgrading my old 97 Skeeter to a newer Champion. Most all I have looked at have Mercs Opti's or Yama HPDI's on them. However, one I've run across has a 2003 Evinrude 200HP HO on it. I don't really know much about the Evinrudes. What shold I expect out of this engine in terms of reliability (#1 criteria for me), maintenance, gas efficiency and performance? The boat is a two owner boat but I am not too concerned about that if it has been well maintained.

Also - is there anyway to determine engine hours on it?

not champ but here goes, first get the a dealer to look up the serial numbers and such since it is a dfi you should be able to have him attach a cable to it and a computer and look up the hours and such for ya. a 2003 dfi should with proper care last a long time as it is probably a BRP product and not an omc product.

Still, not Champ, but as Steve said the dealer can hook up a laptop to the engine and get you hours on the engine, RPM profile, and all warranty history of that engine. I love my 03 225 DI and Champion boats are a great rig!!

Yeah what they said . Get the history pulled and have them check compression and any check engine faults. It is a BRP motor not an OMC.
