    Jav 389/ Hydr. Steering

I had already posted in the general bassboat section but thought i would have better luck here. Sorry for double posting, if mods have to delete its ok.

Has anyone installed hydraulic steering on a javelin 389T? It also has a 6 inch jackplate on it also. I am wanting to, but not sure if I should order 14' or 16' hoses. I suppose if you order the hoses to long you can coil the excess in the battery compartment with no problems?

If you have done this and know the answer thanks in advance....

I put hydro steering on my '94. You want the 16' hoses. 14's worked on mine, but I didn't have a jack plate and there was NO room to spare.

Javelin 389 is right. I did some close measuring and was coming up around 13-13 1/2 ft. not allowing for the jackplate. I ordered 16' ft hoses and they delivered Friday. Also got stuck on 7 days for a little while so I am not sure when I will get to install. I feel like I definitely ordered the best length though.

I have installed them on the 389's and 400's you want the 16' hoses. When you pull the hoses mark one with (both ends) with a piece of masking tape as you have to cross the cables when you install them and the tape helps Identify the hose. Worse part is making that 3" hole in the dash. What I do in that case is either use a roto zip if you have one or fashion a block of wood with a backing to it so the hole saw can grab on to something.

Ok, thanks for the tips. I am not scared of cutting the dash just getting the old cables off and out, then I believe it will go easy from there.
